Hmm... not so much a flame but a bit of confusion. I have noticed now, camping both the lizzy boots and emp pin that there are two obscure instances of camper at these sites. I can't quite figure out why they come to camp lowbie equipment... but getting to the point.

Type A) A lv 75/37 thf/nin, as one example [any level 75/37 job shows up] wearing incredibly superior gear (almost full relic, if not full, god and sea gear, divine might, you name it, they even have a couple abjuration gears, on some of the random JP players who do this)... my question is. What in the fucking hell are you doing camping for an empress pin or bounding boots when you have access to much superior gear? These drops are only good for so long in the lower levels, until they are replaced either by AF or a better overall piece. For crying out loud I saw 3 instances of campers who had boots from gods, and optical hats. Now you might say, hey they want to level a low level job like THF...

Err hey, these are 75 thfs, or 75 rngs, or 75 nins all camping this. And their subjobs usually promote otherwise... I mean seriously if you have the money to afford the cursed gear or mats for some of this gear you're wearing (one of these guys had an HQ uncursed god hands piece, for crying out loud) why not just shell out the measley 400k to buy the non r/ex boots? Saves your time and frustration camping. It's not like they're terribly uncommon either on the AH.

For me, starting out from scratch means I don't have access to lots of money anymore, since I have to slowly work from the ground up like in the good old days. Money is a rare commodity to me now, so I can't just go around flinging 100's of millions of gil to save time...I'm forced to actually camp this gear so I can level a job and eventually be able to make this money/get this good gear that my counter campers seem to like to flash off.

Type B) And this really both frustrates me and confuses the fuck out of me, especially when they get the claim vs. me. Yeah, I'm talking about the campers, not necessarily super high level or anything, but for example, the other night when I was camping VE I came across a 56 thf/nin WEARING the fucking empress pin, who was camping him, and also claimed him out from underneath me...

Yes. He was WEARING the rare/ex pin and still camping it. WTF? is all I could think. It was very frustrating. Not only did he claim it, he left, and came back a couple hours later to camp it... AGAIN. No, he was not in any parties, so I threw out the idea that maybe he was camping for a friend somewhere in the zone. Was this guy just a complete dickwad? A retard? When you camp a r/ex item that you already have, you are one of the two, because it deprives those that need the item from getting it. And honestly there's no point to doing this. You *could* of course, to maintain a self delusional pedestal so that only YOU have this awesome gear (? only awesome for so long anyway...) but then these kinds of people later whine about gimps in thier party. Well hey next time one of you B types here decides that it's fun to deprive players who need gear of getting it when you already have said gear, next time ask YOURSELF why that member in your party doesn't have it.

It wasn't the only case I've seen of this. I've seen people at LL wearing the boots, not in parties. I've seen numerous counts of people at VE wearing the pin, and heard account sof people at mee deggi wearing the kote. One thing I would understand is if they had the rare version and wanted the r/ex version to sell and make some return on the item they bought in the past... but sometimes the counter campers I see go beyond the bounds of stupid!

I end my rant. TY.

Type A.. deal with it. Most people dont have money just floating around to throw away on low level gear. They're leveling a job soon and they need gear for it. So while they're bored waiting for an ls event to begin and they dont have enough time to party they camp a NM.

Type B... They're probablly wearing an Emporer Hairpin and plan to sell it if they can get the rare/ex drop.

Type A wouldn't bother me too much. Camping it for a lowbie job still makes sense, and having shelled out a ton of gil for cursed items doesn't tell you anything about how long it may have taken until they could afford it. I've been playing the game for over two years, and I've only gotten around to getting the Empress Hairpin and Bounding Boots in the past two weeks because I'm leveling Dragoon and Ninja. Yeah, I could've bought the items, but getting them for free is still better than paying for them.

Type B strikes me as pure asshole. The only reason I can imagine they'd be camping it is to keep the non-Rare/EX prices inflated. That's pure griefing. It's possible they're camping it for a friend -- a buddy leveling in the zone and they're just waiting to get claim before they invite them in -- but somehow I really doubt it.

Read his post again. He's talking about a camper already wearing the Rare/Ex version. I'd understand it if they had the original and wanted to sell it off after getting the replacement.

I camped Emp while wearing Empress pin the other day <_< If I got claim, I would have invited my friend who was soloing BST in the area. /shrug

I remember somone complaining in ls chat about prety much the same thing. A thf killed quu domi yesterday just to kill it when the only NM he was after was mee deggi. Since the thf was the only competition at that time so she got to watch somone else kill it that had no interest whatsoever in the drop. If you're gonna kill it for fun at least let the other guy in for him to get his own item.

I camped pin and boots when I had the non r/e of both. This was back when the pair was about 3 mil. I got both r/e versions and sold the non-r/e. Right now I'm trying to get the r/e kote and kyahan to replace my non-r/e. Why does a lvl 75 need pin and boots? Right now I'm lvling my drg and blu both. I'm using the pin and the boots for it. They are also really good for level capped things like bcnms and CoP stuff (which I'm done with but not everyone in the world is). Sure I could've just shelled out the money for the non-r/e for my blu and drg, but it sure was nice just taking my r/e versions out of storage and being ready to go.

yeah, Im trying to get the r/e kote and kyahan... And yeah, I know recently its much better than it used to be, but I just flat out suck at claiming either Mee Deggi or Quu Domi... And I end up camping there for several hours, and then at the last minute some guy comes in, and by my great luck! It spawns right in front of him.

Pisses me off, but oh well.

Type A) While that does suck, farming gil tends to be a lot harder these days than it once used to be and I am sure those people would rather spend the time camping than farming. A lot of the end games items you mention are or probably were very expensive to obtain, but they are also non-refundable. Unlike O.Kotes, Emperor Pin, Boots, etc, the items cannot simply be resold to gain one's gil and those expensive items are permanent monetary losses. They may seem rich because they were at one time rich, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are still rich even now. Much like you, they cannot afford the purchaseable versions or would rather camp them.

Type B) Give names. People that do that are either stupid, assholes, or trying to help someone else get the item if they get claim. Question: Did check if they were in party when you first noticed them or when they claimed the NM? It's very possible they were helping someone but only invited when they claimed. I've done that before because the person could earn exp/seals while camping, but not while partied together.

I'll be camping my boots after WHM, so you better get your shit before I do.

Hahaha XD That was me !

None of aforementioned Type B's ever were in a party. I did a /sea just to double check before I went to flame them and sound like an ass =P

In fact, a couple had seek flags up while they killed it.

Type A is more understandable, I agree. It's still kind of irritating XD

I like having the rare/ex version of those kinds of items in case I suddenly decide to level another job (be it new or I stopped at 40 or something) or in case I might be doing something in a level capped zone.

Dunno why people camp LL on a L70ish job. Can just farm the lizards there at L15 or so, get a ton of seals, and claim/kill Lizzy all the same. =P

I think it's the part where CourierCarrie kills everything in the zone in one shot.

I remember when Leaping Lizzy and the Valkurm Emperor's drops were first made Rare/Ex. Vang was in my linkshell at the time, and as soon as he got his, he spent the next several hours killing those NMs to keep anyone else from replacing theirs.

He made a careful point to wear the Rare/Ex versions while he was hunting, and just about died laughing whenever the inevitable "WTF?!?!?!!?" came when someone checked him. It took him a while to grow bored of it. It wasn't even an issue of him just doing something to kill time; the whole point of the task (to him, at least) was to literally prevent others from getting the drop ... perhaps because the two NM's (and Argus) used to be a primary source of income for him, and his bitterness about the change in general wasn't something he kept secret.

So, he exacted his revenge on an unsuspecting n00b public, and he had a ball. I feel guilty for laughing at it, even in a "Oh my God, is he really doing that?" way ... but Vang has that effect on people. You can literally feel your sense of morality draining away as you spend time around him. It was undoubtedly cruel and malevolent, but some of the reactions WERE pretty funny.

So, just to let everyone know, there ARE people around who get their jollies this way. o_O

Speaking for myself, there is that whole "instinct" factor to fight. If you happen to have the insane luck to see a notorious monster spawn right in front of you while you happen to be passing through, the first impulse that surges through your keyboard fingers is to CLAIM ... higher brain functions that would lead one to consider the fact that one already has the drop may not come into play, expecially when fatigue is a factor.

Of course, we're talking about people that actually sit there and make an effort to camp, so a degree of maliciousness is definitely at the heart of it all.

I claimed LL while running through, and i had the boots.

There were no other campers, and i didnt get drop, but Winkle is right. Its just that instinct.
