I was wondering can you have 2 Anti Virus Running on the background at the same time.

Like Symantec, an AVG at the same time, or is not a good idea.

Having two anti-virus thingies going on at the same time interfere with each other's processes. I guess it would depend on which softwares, but I know that it isn't recommended. ^^;

Yay, I helped Vandoura for a change!

If you original question is whether you should run multiple brands of antivirus products on a singe computer; i.e. both McAfee & Symantec on a desktop PC for instance, I (and the vendors) wouldn't recommend that. There are numerous reasons. The antivirus programs consume a fair amount of memory and CPT time, they may cause conflicts with each other, they are probably not tested by their manufacturers to work with each other to name a few.

Yea, usually they interfere in that they detect each other as viruses themselves, because they resemble the activity of many viruses.

Your best bet is to get something not Norton or McAfee because they are the two most popular, thus the two most hacked against. It's the same reason Windows users are more at risk than Mac users, the population is swayed in such a way that it's a waste to create hacks for Macs.

Ive wondered this myself, and have actually had 2 antivirus programs running for the past few weeks.

AVG and Norton 360.

NORTON THREE SIXTY SUCKS MAJOR ASS. Was a waste of my money

Anyway, they didnt seem to bother each other. They would both detect the same virus at the same time, and neither would do anything until I clicked one or the other. I usually clicked send to vault on AVG, and the norton notification just went away.

Seemed to work okay with each other for the most part. I did seperate the scans and defrags apart from each other, though.

I'm running MacaFee and i don't like it. I'm in the process of replacing it with Norton 2007. I know Norton has a bad rep with some of you, but the days i used Norton it never let me down.

For the past 2 days my downloading speeds have been freaking slow and my PC is freezing on and off. I'v been reading alot and testing out different procedures trying to solve the problem. I've ran registry software aswell as Spyware software and they claim everything to be ok. Now i have MacaFee under the looking glass which is might be failing to do it's job and i have Norton on the way.

Not looking for security utilities and all that crap, i need a plain raw Antivirus software. Though i couldn't speak for Norton 360, if Norton Antivirus does the trick (yet again) i'll take my own experiences with Norton above it's reputation of being inferior to MacaFee any day.

2 can exist on your computer as long as they both do not run at the same time.

Actually some people reccomend having 2 programs available because mostly all programs can't detect all virusues. Actually none can because they are all updated differently.

Personally I run 1. Mcafee. For no particular reason. I used to have several on my computer. Now if I get a virus I remove it, or restore from a backup. No virus scanner is fool proof, it's not even fool proof if you have several on your computer.

So when i installed Norton, it did it's check to see if anything would prevent it from installing properly. MacaFee was on and neither of them clashed. Now i'm updating Norton and i find it odd they never conflicted with one another.

My Spyware doctor isn't conflicting with MacaFee, but on my friends PC they conflict. They even address one another by name. so far it looks as though i'll be running all 3 softwares at the same time. In the end i'll shut off MacaFee or Norton, which ever one does the job will become my main.

The days when I had norton system works and internet security, I was in virus-free heaven. Ever since then when Ive tried new products, its been a waste of money and time, and security...

To anyone and everyone, I really suggest not getting Norton 360. Stick with System Works above everything else if youre going with norton...

McAfee is shit, I don't know why people still use it when there are better anti-virus programs that are just as free.

ya, I got rid of McAfee.. god that was a piece of shit ~_~ bogged my system down to hell.
