I have heard level 50+ people using this term Cannon Party? I know it involved a funny party configuration, but what is it really?

All Smn is one....

More popular is 4blm 1brd 1pld.....
now this can be modified of course........ 5blm 1pld...... or a few other lil differences......
fun stuff..... just NUKE.... its great seeing a monster get destroyed in a matter of seconds........ 6k exp per hour depending on the mob^^
The pld acts like more of a puller than a tank..... usually the first barrage of spells will pull the hate off...... and if the pld and bard can SC (probably on chain 5).... thats some goodstuff too......
Yes a blm can die from pulling hate..... but the monster will likely die first^^
Theres also a sense of responsibility to survive..... if one blm gets hate.... he nukes lighter letting one of the other blms take hate

Rarely seen is 4mnk 1x 1pld....
only good for undead really........

in essence... a cannon consists of at least 4 hardcore damage dealers...
 
So this is for an EXP party and not for any kind of special mission/quest. I assume it is only done at high level because of the high damage BLM spells, or could it be done at my level (37)?
 
pretty much Pascal... exp parties. CANNON parties will normally just consist of complete DD's... such as an all BLM party, lmao. but that's how i build my parties.. last setup was x2RNG, x3BLM, and me^^ granted the RNGs got hate a few times... and with their Utsusemi:Ni it's really no big deal. try it out for size pascal... see how you'll like getting Exp Chains up to 8 lmao
 
From what I heard, a Cannon Party is just any party that focuses more on risky but fast exp than safe but slower. My preferred party is a cannon party of sorts.

Obviously most of the DD are interchangeable. The point is that things could easily go badly if something went wrong, but if they work, you are looking at 6k an hour +. Its really good fun and feels better than your standard 3k an hour using a Pld tank and having a Whm.
 
I suppose in that case, BLM/NIN is more viable as they'd have Utsusemi to cover their defense when they pull aggro from the PLD. Less MPs, 2nd Wand compensating for the loss of stats from the sub... Does that sound right?

I leveled from 29-33 one evening in a party just like this...it was unbelievable and NO downtime.
 
I would kill mithra babies to get into an all Summoner party.... :shock:
 
You need 5 SMNs and some sort of mp refresher. I had a SMN in my LS PT with me and our RDM was subjob bard. With regular staff he was getting only -1 mp/sec with his avatar out as he had refresh and ballad up at the same time. So with HQ staff he would be able to have his avatar out for free. So that'd be pretty nice. 5 SMN with HQ staves and RDM/BRD spamming refresh/ballad and sitting back and enjoying the view.

As for BLM cannons you absolutely want a PLD not a NIN. For one with a BRD as I assume you'll get to give everyone ballad 1(+2), the PLD can get Ballad mid battle easily as there's no other melee that want madrigal. They can keep hate pretty well with this and as long as they know what they're doing they can keep the BLM alive except from maybe 1 shot kills like for example sickle slash. If you were gonna get a nin you might as well just make it a 5th BLM instead and have the bard pull really. I've also seen this and that works pretty well as long as the BLM keep stoneskin blink up.
 
blm/nin wouldnt be to good for a cannon.......
blink works almost like utsusemi (monsters love to attack me and disregard my blink... whil utsusemi seems more consistent).....
stoneskin is invaluable.....
cure... is invaluable since blms WILL get hate.......
blm/nin would be horrible on undead... cant drain... cant cure.... downtime up the wazoo (fyi... a wazoo is an ear)

There is one real problem with cannon parties... That is I have enough issues finding one BLM let alone 4. The same holds true with a RNG. Cannon parties are also Ideal at lower lvls if youa re being power leveled. (I have WAY to much experience PLing people....)
 
Hehehe yeah building cannons are a bit tough......
If you know people by name.... throw them on your FriendList and try to plan a cannon session a day before or something....

This worked except one thing...
Figuring out who pulls...

If don correctly you get a SA/TA off every 10 seconds for an entire fight and the mob goes around and eats shadows of Utsusemi.

This is a little less complicated.

you get in a group, and the group leader looks at his list and designates a number to each member #1 Being Him/herself:

1)Rdm/Whm
2)Rdm/Whm
3)Rdm/Whm
4)Rdm/Whm
5)Rdm/Whm
6)Rdm/Whm

And duties are as follows:

1)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 2)
2)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 3)
3)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 4)
4)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 5)
5)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 6)
6)Rdm/Whm (Heal Rdm 1)

From there you figure out who casts what first.
And you DO NOT cast anything if You have hate.

I saw this in Crawlers nest when I was leveling. It seemed to work really well. Really odd to see an entire group of Rdms Convert at the same time.
 
Ive heard of 5 BLM 1 BRD parties where the BRD pulls and sleeps mob then all 5 blm cast ancent magic at same time. If it works or not I don't know.
 
I got into one of these groups once, 5 BLM and a SAM. The SAM pulled, me and the other 4 BLM's nuked away. It was so cool to see gob smithys drop in 30 seconds lol (this was in Yhoator Jungle)
