This isnt a discussion as to whether or not BLU is a better main healer than RDM or WHM. Its a discussion saying that its possible for BLU to main heal.

Now, I have absolutely no experience with using BLU to be main healer in a party pre level 60, but especially at 60/64+ BLU can be a very viable healer, especially at lv 64 when BLU can use erase. BLU also gets a number of good debuffs which could be used. Frightful Roar (equivelant to Dia 2 as far as defense reduction goes), Terror Touch (Im guessing is equivelant to Bio 2 as far as attack reduction goes) and these two spells can be stacked. You also will get a number of sleep spells, bind spells, blind, and slow, and these dont cost a lot of MP. Pinecone Bomb and Soporific could be used for sleep. ( I forget the name of the tonberry spell, but it causes TP reduction, blind and bind for ~50 mp). ALso can get Filamented Hold, which I think is a more potent slow than Slow itself. But Im 'thinking' and not knowing. It is also set on a regular timer, and never lasts any shorter than 2 minutes. There are several other spels, especially the ones you can use to create traits, and then stack on the Clear Mind spells.

All in all, BLU can be a very effective healer (maybe not as effective as WHM, but still very effective nontheless.) I have played as healer several times on BLU, and I find it to be awesome. Not only can Iheal, but I can also jump in and just spam Head Butt to make the fights twice as safe.

Won't work well because they don't have haste to cast on melees/tanks. =P

thats not a "must have" spell. It does work, lol, because Ive done this on several occasions, without any trouble at all.

Eh, I definately consider haste a must have with a NIN tank.

With my experience, it most definitely isnt. Sure, its nice. But needed? Not really. I can speak from first hand.

Mages don't NEED refresh either, but it makes your party that much better.

part of the reason they hold hate well because they attack so damn fast

well, that is another thing... Whenever Im healer and theres a NIN tank, I always invite a THF for hate mitigation

but thats my point lol. When you dont have the ideal PT setup, BLU can become a healer... As the Title of the thread states:

When you cant get a normal healer, BLU can takes its place.

This thread was made saying how if there arent any RDM's or WHM's lfp, BLU can become a healer. So why are people arguing that WHM or RDm can be a better healer, if you cant even have one in your party???

BLU can be a very good healer, yes.

Either way, hase is a somewhat moot argument as the RDM can haste them. So unless you have a BRD onry, meh.

I've main helaed as BLU many times. The sad part? I did a better job then most WHMes >.>

haste isnt a must have with a competent nin tank who doesnt wear lizard gear.

if anything haste is more for the other melee DDs, i never had any trouble keeping shadows up in xp if we didnt have haste.

I really should take this reply and make it "Tiny Gripe IV", but it really fits in nicely here.

What I noticed about the Lack of healers, with the advent of Power leveling getting as rampant as it has been, there's been a couple things that popped up in the wake. As stated in "Tiny Gripe III" the tanks and such just dont' try anymore in lower levels, wearing shit gear, and generaly just not doing thier job even remotely effective. This use to only be a problem in the dunes, then it became a problem in Qufim and all the way up to Level 40's. What I see as an added problem with this, is that Because there's so much rampant power-leveling, there's no need for healers either, a party goes faster with 6 DD when you got a PL, than 5 DD and a healer... So when you get to the higher levels you get a severe surplus of DD, and a massive deficency in healers.

Powerleveling basically leads to:

Poor tanks that can't hold hate.
Poor DD's that can't control thier Hate.
Shitty thieves that don't know how to SATA.
Healers that dont' know how to heal.
Lack of healers later from having to get passed up for another DD.

I am glad there's solutions and using alternative jobs as healers, but it's kinda a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Not that anything can really be done about it, I just felt like making an open statement for thought, and/or discussion.

Yeah this really bothers me. The last time I was actually power leveled was.... Well, I cant remember. In a party, that is. Ive been PL'd solo once or twice, most recent was on PLD, which was months ago in the dunes.

Haste = needed for a nin unless you're fighting really weak crap or they have the most uber of gear. Especially once you're 60+ and you can't evade for shit; since a lot of mobs after that point have nasty weapon skills and pretty much never miss.

What does BLU bring to the table as a main healer, exactly? From the OP, they're an excellent debuffer, but that's not really healing. The only healing spell they get that I'm aware of is magic fruit, everything else is due to their subjob. If that's the case, then they're good in a pinch, but definitely not something to seek with; kinda like a bard main healing.

Uzor mainhealed better than the white mages because most white mages suck and are at best the equivalent of sure botters. That's not really showing the strength of BLU main healing, but rather how shitty those white mages really were.

people seem to be missing the entire point of the OP. Im stating that if RDM or WHM arent seeking, then BLU can make a viable healer. In all of the parties I main healed in as BLU 60+, I had NIN tank. Not only this, the last party I main healed for was 5/6 because I was going to wait for an actual healer to pop (which never happened.) Haste is not a needed spell.

The NINs you play with must be used to sucking then. If I'm not getting hasted during every pull or shortly thereafter, main healers aren't going to be your only problem.

The only substitute I would take would be a march song from a brd.

RDM and WHM do so much more a NIN tank as well. Flash is big, especially when fighting mobs with multi-hit WSs like goblin rush. Para/slow/blind which starts getting resisted more and more often against the mobs in the 60's and 70's.

Unless I know everyone in the party, I wouldn't accept a half ass setup. 9/10 it will end in me hurting someones feelings, and I'm too nice of a guy to let that happen.

Yes, they do get most of their things from their SJ. However, BRD don't get Cure IV. Magic Fruit actually costs less then Cure IV, and heals for more, so its really very potent.

BLU also get an AoE version of Stoneskin, which helps out in parties to prevent AoE attacks, or for the NIN to not get interrupted on Utsusemi.

I understand what you mean, but its something that if taken care of in the right way, it can easily be pulled off. Our exp wasnt 12k/hr or anything at all, but then again, it wasnt a canon. Our average exp was 8k/hr without exp ring, and I find that to be very efficient considering our party setup. It worked, and thats what this entire thread is supposed to be about. BLU working as a main healer. Not whats best, or what is preferred.

I think you're confusing what worked in one party, and applying it to other parties. Unusual parties that work are more often than not the result of the 6 members, and giving false hope to the gimps that read this board, making them believe they can pull of a PT with a BLU healer is almost criminal.
