Its a 2001 Volkswagen Golf.. That should basically queue in any hints already..

The Problem: Battery is drained completely, often within days, EVEN if I disconnect the battery when Im not using the car.

Its a salvaged title... The car wasnt damaged too horribly at all though, mostly the interior.. The stereo was completely cut out, radio, speakers and all.. Besides this, some of the interior seats and siding was ripped out, probably to fully remove the wires.

In the rear of the car (the hatch) and underneath the flooring, there are some severed wires there... I honestly dont know what theyre for, but my assumption was speakers, but also assume theyre for other more vital things, like the turning signal. We were able to rewire the turning signal though, so thats all good.

Im also assuming its just a bad alternator, which Im going to be looking into soon after I get someone to check it for me. I have no idea how.

Any thoughts or suggestions? A dealership wont bother with it.

take the altenator off, take it down to an alternator shop, they'll tell you. You'll need it off to get a new one since they remanufacturer them.

Edit: And VWs are for fags and 16 year old girls.

Sell the car and buy something else. Volkswagens are horrible cars. The day I got rid of mine was the happiest day of my life.

Yeah sounds like the alternator since your battery isn't recharging. As for the wires, they were probably to speakers or a sub, so don't worry about that.

well driving a fag car is better than not having one at all, look at that bright side.

Because if you know what you're doing VW Golfs arn't even remotely fast...

Trash all the Mini Coopers too

racing? lol who said I was trying to race... I get my cars for the smooth and comfy ride, not for the cock thrill

sorry fella's

Its like youre being high school kids, I shouldnt even expect that from you...

oh wait...

A cars a car, that simple. Unless its garnished in pink and glitter.

Meeze and Acks already answered your question.

Racing whatever aside, I was being completely serious. VWs blow.

I bought one used three years ago. It was only a few years old, and barely had any miles on it. The day after I bought it, the master cylinder broke.

Two weeks later, the radio locked, and I had to find the original dealership to get the "unlock" code, because it is written on the back of the radio, and I didn't want to pull it out.

A few months later, I got four flat tires in five days.

Then my windows stopped working.

Then the passenger side front seat reclined, by itself, and wouldn't straighten up.

One time, while driving on the highway, my headlight fell out of my car. I was just driving along, minding my own business, when I hear a pop and a scraaaape. When I got to my friend's house, I noticed that the light and casing had somehow fallen out of the car. All I had left was the hanging wire that attaches to it.

The last straw was getting pulled over one night because one of my new headlights wasn't working. Turns out, the wiring on that side of the car had somehow melted, and it would have cost 800 dollars to fix.

After that, I sold it and bought a stable, albeit pretty boring Corolla. Almost 2 years, not a single problem.

ahh hell, it does sound like youve had some problems. Ive yet to have many, though... Just the battery/alternator problem only, so far. And I bought it with only 10k miles on it, for $7,000. I couldnt pass that up.

Other than that, I am extremely satisfied with the car. Its not fast, but its quick, smooth, quiet and very responsive.

Before this, I had a dodge stealth which was a damn pain in the ass. It was quick and fast, but wasnt very smooth at all, neither was it quiet. It was somewhat responsive, but didnt handle anything like the golf does...

It blew ass, but did catch the ladies eyes. But fuck that shit, why am I gonna drive a shit piece just to get another to ride with me? (no offense to you ladies, there are some good apples in the barrel)

Sounds like a lemon. My woman's had a 95 Jetta for about 3 years now and it's been very solid. Bought it with 260,000km on it and put about 30k on it since, all city driving.

Only real problems we've had were electrical and some expected things at high mileage (heater core just went, oil pressure sender popped a couple months ago). Very sound mechanical-wise, I know VW are notorious for electrical problems but those are usually easier to fix since you don't need a lot of room or tools.

OP: you can get your alternator rebuilt as well if that's the case. The crack the casing and re-wire the coils I think. Sometimes cheaper than buying a new one. In any case a shop should be able to test it's output to see if that is indeed the problem.

lol @ dodge stealth catching anyones eye.

I never really tried to attract men or whores, personally...

But yeah, Ive had the golf for 2-3 years now, and this is the only problem Ive had. Im quite satisfied with it, actually.

get a voltmeter and put it across the + and - on the batt while the car is running. You should get a bit higher than 14 volts, I fear it might be giving too much (16+) or none at all, so let us know. Alot easier than taking it out to test at a shop.

Hard to tell you but..... How old is the battery? After playing around with plenty of cars and a few golf carts you learn that after a certain age and normal wear and tear some batteries just wont take a charge. Good chance its just the battery. If it is the alternator. Do not take it off yourself unless your skilled with hand tools. They can test an alternator while its in the car at any shop.

Give us more info. You said the car wont hold a charge does that mean you charge it and its dead in a couple days? Can you still drive it short distances? Be specific about everything. One last thing there is a good chance it may be the alternator since you said something about the stereo being ripped out. You'll want to check is what those wires go to and come from. A shorted wire that finds a ground will drain a battery. Had a 87 Honda Civic do that to me.

One last thing. Dont make the same mistake as 90% of people when hey work on the elctrical system... Unplug the Negative terminal on the battery whenever you play with a cars electronic system or else youll prolly pop a fuse or two then youll have a whole nother prob on your hands. GL dude. If you could give me a few more details might be able to better Diagnose it.

Alternator is usually just two bolts. If you can't take off two bolts, you should trade your sack in for a uterus.

Start the car, take the negative off, if the car dies, it is for sure the altenator.

quiet and very responsive

Wait, isn't that an oxymoron? Oh right, the subject is cars...

Already been said, but if the car's mileage is that low and such it'd most likely be the battery itself, unless your cars a lemon and someone managed to roll back it's mileage or something. I don't know a whole ton about cars so can't give much advice beyond this - go figure. =P

The battery isnt but a few years old. Not too old at all. Should technically still hold charge in a normal situation

Yeah, I can drive the car a short distance. Well, actually on a full charge, I could drive the car about 20-30 miles before the brakes started kicking in automatically, and the steering started to lock up.

It could also be a grounded wire, Ill have to also look into that.

I wont be playing with fixing the car myself. I know I couldnt really do it with such little knowledge on where things are located lol.
