*looks at everyone who posted in here* yep I weas right:wacko:

Says the man with the sail from One Piece. One Piece probably became the biggest child cartoon/anime ever when it got it's dub.

He's unaware that it's from One Piece. (trust me)

... Dammit, stop taking words from my mouth I had no intention of saying!

... /votes 'Confirm'. Or would that be deny? Hmm.

Cartoons are for all ages. Hell I laugh my ass off at Ed,Ed and Eddy when my son watches it. I don't think there is a age where you ever grow out of Cartoons.

Haha, when I used to watch that when it first came out my mom liked it more than I did.

I think she bought the dvd boxset recently, actually

deny, go watch Ergo Proxy and tell me that a child would understand it. :p

My avatar should speak for itself

Animation =/= Kids only

As said many times before

I think people who don't watch animated shows probably have a skewed view of what the target audience for cartoons is. Last I saw, cartoon network's highest ratings were for the 21-30 range. (don't quote me on that)

BTW, who here's seen Gantz? Talk about a show NOT made for kids...

Most animated programs have a Target Audience of 8-14. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable for those outside of it.

Seeing that espescially concerning manga and anime are popular/modern forms of a long tradition of accompanying animated storytelling I say no. Unless Tale of Genji and Saikaku are for kids only......

Go watch Gantz and tell me its meant for children and/or you'd let your 5 yr old kid watch it.

Sure anime may seem kiddy, but alot of them are more deep than that and something a kid could enjoy, but probably wouldn't fully understand alot of the shit going on. Just depends on what you watch.

OK need to draw the line of what's anime and a cartoon. To me there's...

Anime
'Americanized Anime' (voice overs of with catch phrases CN's Naruto as an example)
Cartoons (Looney Toons Tom & Jerry, CN originals, Hanna Barbera)

When you're a kid.. you really didn't know which was which. As long as it was animated, you wanted to watch it (and if it was interesting of course). When i first saw DBZ.. i considered it to be a cartoon.. but I think it's an actual anime. but i saw the 'americanized' anime of it on CN.

I remember someone telling me the Ninja Turtles most of us grew up on was way different from the 'actual' ninja turtles where I heard Splinter was too uber.

I used to call anime, a 'Cartoon Soap Opera' after watching gundam series and DBZ and etc. You see in a 'lot' of cartoons that there isn't a continuing storyline between episodes and etc. But Full Metal Panic Fumoffu didn't do that either in a 'sense,' but it was a spin-off anyway. I think elfen lied is an anime. It has some parts with gorey and nudity. But you can't call that a cartoon, can you? There is a storyline...

So at this moment. I think an anime is a collection of animated episodes that has a plot or focus on a main story throughout the whole series. And a cartoon is just random stories with no 'real' order to them. Like for say.. if you watched a Bugs Bunny cartoon one day.. and you missed watching the cartoon the next day at the same time.. but then watch it the day after next.. did you miss anything on the day you missed? I think the first CN original anime I saw was Samurai Jack (I miss that one.. loved it..). It had an order to it. If you watched episode 5 and then 7... you missed something in 6 that could effect the story.

By the way.. random question... what would you call 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' an anime or a cartoon? Based on my theories.. it'd be an anime. >.> But the 90s Spider-Man and X-men series would be anime based on my theory too... but back then i used to call them cartoons.. but are they still?

I dunno maybe I'm wrong but from all the anime i see.. it makes sense. Cartoons being Aesop's Fables and Anime being a long drawn out Soap Opera XD

You can say any Animation came from Japan is Anime and anywhere else is Cartoon

Is like USA had name for their cartoon name "Disney"

And Anime/Cartoon can be varies depends by the content

Like Hentai, It contain sexual act and is also hand drawn character, does this mean its for children too? No

3 words: Tom and Jerry. Enjoyable for everyone. Even fucking PETA would laugh at that one episode where they turn the floor all ice and skate around to "Sleeping Beauty". Great shit.

Stuff like Avatar, Teen Titans, and Samurai Jack are what I call 'non-anime'. Shows like Ed, Edd and Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Looney Toons etc. are 'cartoons'.

Gantz... need to pick it up. Horribly violent I heard. Trying to find the episodes for - I believe the title was Tokyo Maijin Gakuen. Watching a car filled with a happy family just get tossed into the side of a cliff, and one of the main characters walk over to the surviving for only so long daughter who was impaled on scrap metal.... yeah.
