Casting speed question

well i was wondering if there was a cap on how fast you can cast spells. i was looking at merits tonight for whm and saw that with 10 merits you can get 40% reduced cast time and if you subed rdm you can use Loquacious Earring and cure clogs. im not sure on exact numbers but i would think that would drop cure III down to like .6 secs to cast, is this possible?

you only can shorten the cure casting time by 20%

loquacious will shorten any casting time by 5%
rostrum pumps will do 5% also
subbing rdm will shorten by more than 5% though (20 % i think ?)

Yeah, you'd get two levels of fast cast from /rdm so you'd have 20% I think. And I think the "enhances fast cast" effect is proportional to the amount you have already, much like "Fastcast +5%" or whatever, so you might even get a few milliseconds knocked off there too. Who knows, you could have cures that go off like stuns and have recasts of like 2 seconds. That really would be the definition of spamming cure.

Let's look at the most fast cast gear and stuff you could have... (this will be for a RDM, to take advantage of their inherant fast cast effect)

Fast cast (1, 2 and 3)
Warlock's Chapeau
Duelist's Tabard
Loquacious Earring

That's like Fast cast level 6... Not having access to my character at the moment I couldn't tell you how much of an affect these fast cast enhancements would make, I can tell you it'll make your character very fast... lol

Probably subjob to be a particular job, so for that cape, RDM subjob. Like the earrings really. You'll never see a RDM main wear that cape, so that must be it.

Warlocks cape reduces casting by 1% casting haste reduces the cool down period for spells everyone else covered teh rest i think

Fast Cast I is 5% off recast, Fast Cast II is 10% off recast, at least with rdm as a subjob. I haven't tested with rdm main, and my rdms are only 37 so I couldn't tell you what III and IV are.

its an additional 5% added as you progress each tier af hat adds another 5%

tier 1 at 5% at lv 15

tier 2 at 10% at lv 35

tier 3 at 15% at lv 55 this ends the natural growth of it for the rest of the rdms way to 75

af hat adds another 5% relic tabard adds another 5% im guessing

The items mentioned by blabj can vary i think since not all fast cast enducing items guarantee an extra 5% like i mentioned with the Warlocks Cape giving only 1% extra

I fully merited cure casting time on whm. I also carry a pair of cure clogs around with me that I macro in for Cure IV and Cure V. My Cure IV and Cure V macros swap out Rostrums for CC then swap back to Rostrums when they are done casting. IV has a /wait 3 and V has a /wait 4, if that's any indication on how fast the spells cast.

I have the setup Blabj mentioned not sure exactly how much it cuts off everything but it is very fast. It cuts down on recast timers alot and allows the spell to go off at a faster % also. Escape goes off at about 40-45% and a Tele on whm sub goes off about the same.

okay so it take i that there is not a cap on how much time you can remove from a spell. you also said that rost pumps are 5%, cure clogs are 15% do these numbers work differently or are cure clogs faster?
