Multi-Plat Castlevania Lords of Shadow

Soul Reaver 2 and Defiant weren't bad. They were interesting in terms of story :P which is pretty much what the game was running on after Soul Reaver (and in Soul Reaver)

So... I am a Castlevania fan and as most Castlevania fans i dont like the idea of 3dvania. I was expecting this to be crap no matter how pretty it looks. After finally finishing it i can say this was an amazing experience. I love this game.

Also... Greatest ending ever. Ever, ever. Ever. I can not express how much i am looking forward to the sequal.

I think I'm gonna pick this game up in a week or 3 (when I have more free time). School + work are eating ALL my free time, literally :(

Work is the reason it has taken so long to complete the game for me. Plus its a long game lol. Will be worth it in the end when ya get there though Ele.

I'm in CHapter 11 atm and working on beating the game with in the coming week (hell may even happen tonight we shall see). I'll post more when I have it done.

Chapter 3 at this time, and I am extremely impressed at this game. The developers managed to do a 3D Castlevania game the right way! Sure it takes elements from other games, but I tend not to notice when I'm playing it simply because I am enjoying this game so much.

So it's a great game? I should get it? I'm a huge castlevania fan. Obviously SoTN was my favourite.

Well I still haven't beaten it, but the game doesn't feel to Castlevania like to me. And TBH there are some seriously frustrating parts (heres looking at you Chupicabras and Blood puzzle). Over all I'm enjoying it, but to get to that point I had to stop looking at it as a Castelvania game and just look at it on it's own.

Yeah, think of it as Lords of Shadow and just drop the Castlevania and it's fine. Cua, it's worth waiting for the price drop honestly unless you're just aching to buy a new game. I don't feel bad about payin' the full price for it, but it's definitely, like most games, not of $60 quality, at least on the 360 with its shaky cam and input issues.

The PS3 version is better, and much more worth the $60.

I don't see how it's not a Castlevania game. There's less backtracking once you get X power-up than in previous games, but other than that, it's a Castlevania.

The only way I know how to answer that is to say that I've played every single Castlevania from the beginning. None of the 3D ones have been good. I think this one is just "good" given the time. If people get fed enough crap, over time their standards will most likely lower, which I find the case to be here if you look at it from a Castlevania perspective. However, take off the Castlevania and it isn't that bad of a game. You can't compare classic 2D platforming and action to the games the genre has moved on to for me. I love the genre now, but it's the kind of love you accept because the past wont ever be again, so you might as well accept it.

So, because it's not 2D, and that the other 3D castlevania games have sucked, but this one is good, it therefore cannot be a castlevania game? That a reason to maybe not like the game, but that doesn't mean it's not a castelvania game just because they've successfully created a 3D version of the game. It is a castlevania game, just because you prefer the 2D versions of yesteryear, doesn't change what the game actually is.

I wouldn't say all were bad, I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness quite a bit.

I thought this game didn't feel Castlevania like because it's much less about Dracula and his effects on the world, and more on this strong religious overtone.

Thanks for giving an actual reason. If you haven't finished it yet(I finished it yesterday, finally) there is a perfectly valid reason why Lords of Shadow is not about Dracula which they reveal at the end of the game. Also, Lament of Innocence really had nothing to do with Dracula except for one fight at the end of the game, and that was the "origin story" in the existing chronology; so no Dracula isn't a deal breaker, especially since Lords of Shadow is it's own origin story.

Lament of Innocence showed how Dracula came to be, and I haven't finished Lords of Shadow yet but I've already been given to understand that Dracula has nothing to do with it, not even a mention.

That's just my opinion, I think Castlevania games need to have something to do with Dracula, they always have until now. If you wanted to make severely religious game that is a stepping stone into sequels you should do it and let it stand on it's own merit, not slap another famous brand name on it so that you can start with a fan base.

He does come up in the game. How I don't want to say as it's a spoiler, but he IS in the game. Lament of Innocence was the origin story for the other castlevanias, Lords of Shadow is the origin story for the new series of castlevanias; Dracula will definitely be a major part of coming games.

Point conceded then, since really that is what makes a Castlevania game for me, Dracula.

If it doesn't feel like Castlevania to me, what's it to you? It's not like I was tryin' to factually say it's not a Castlevania game. Maybe I should put some boobs in my signature...

It's because your reasoning makes absolutely no sense at all. It's a good 3D game, but all the 3D castlevania games suck, so it doesn't "feel like" a castelvania game to me; just seems like pulling at straws to find a reason.

You don't like the game, or whatever, fine, that's your opinion; but that doesn't mean I can't call into question your reasoning.

Damn fine straw if I do say so myself.
