What do I do if I am having a tough time breathing? lol I watched someones cat for a day and it turns out I am allergic to this type.

I have really bad cat allergies but I live with a cat, go figure. I usually just pop an Alavert when I can feel the onset of allergic reaction popping up and after 10-20 minutes I'm okay for a while.

Cat is gone. I have all my clothes and stuff in another room and I am slowly washing it all to get rid of any cat hair if it got on anything. It is just the breathing part. Will it go away or should I drive to a hospital lol

If you're having trouble breathing, I'd go to the hospital just to be safe.

I'm allergic to cats too, but I live with four. :P When it gets bad, I just wash my face or take a shower.

You missed your chance to eat the cat and gain immunity to the allergy.

If you're having a tough time breathing from a pet allergy, you may want to see if you've somehow developed asthma and it was triggered by the allergic reaction, some people can have asthma for a long time and it never takes effect until something makes it go active.

In any case, I'd personally say to take a hot shower/bath to remove the dander/fur and relax, then wait it out for about one or two hours, if you don't feel any better, try to see a doctor soon.

Going to try taking a shower. Haven't had a problem breathing since I had childhood asthma. Hopefully this works.

Oh, this changes everything. I have the same problem around some dogs, the hot bath/shower will do you some good, consider picking up a cheapie OTC inhaler(primatene, or CVS generic) or something along those lines.

Ok, so I took a hot shower. I feel a bit better. I only have benedryl here, so gonna try some of that jazz.

I too am plagued with this foul disease.

Clearly, you need to kill the cat.

This would be my first line of defense, but if this is not an option, take 25-50 mg of diphenhydramine(found in benadryl) or 10-15 mg of loratadine, I'm not sure what the generic name for this is. Both however have prooved successful in the past at subsiding my reaction. Diphenhydramine will make you sleepy, loratadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine, just something to keep in mind.

Don't waste a hospital trip, trust me, once you're away from the cat it will go away. When I stay with my brother(he has a cat) for more than a day I start to have trouble breathing, I've always assumed it was a combination of the cat allergies and all the smoking that I do. When it gets so bad that I can't even sleep because I have to focus on breathing, I take a nice long, hot shower. I can't say entirely why, but it always helps.
I've learned from these experiences though and now when I go over I stop smoking as soon as I have trouble breathing and it usually doesn't get too bad.

The reason hot showers work when it comes to these kinds of allergies is because of the steam the showers produce. It opens up nasal passages and allows you to breathe easier. Make sure you sit in it for at least 15 minutes though for it to kick in.

Well the shower did make it better that night. It is like 2 days later now and my breathing still isn't perfect, but much better than it was that night. I can at least go to sleep without having to concentrate on breathing.
