So this morning i go to get on FF when i get those gay errors where u get stuck on the friend list loading. Finally the support line hours open and i call POL support. They say it's prolly my router, hehe just like them to blame something else other than themselves. Sure enough that wasn't the problem. Then they tell me to check for any corrupt files, yet again, nothing is wrong. Finally they just tell me to reinstall POL, so i proceed to... until i put the CD in and it wont load.

Come to find out, both my DVD and CD-R drives have been uninstalled. No idea how this happened. I will admit I'm very careless when it comes to clicking things on the internet, but i doubt something i clicked gave me some virus that unistalls drivers, yet it is still likely.

Does anyone know of a way to download new drivers for my drives? Whenever i got my comp (Dell Deminsions 8400) everything came preloaded, and i think i've found all the software they gave me. Either way I'd need a CD drive in order to reinstall the drivers. So, if u have any info on where i could get the drivers or anything at all, please post... Thanks in advance!

Usually, if you go to the website of the company that did your drives, there's a download section. You can usually select what hardware or software you have and download the drivers from the website. It's never cost me anything for anything I've had to do it for, so hopefully it won't for you.

If Windows XP can not recognize your CD drive something else is wrong, most likely a virus or something.

First of all... FFXI, POL doesn't need to run from a CD, and second, you said you had problems on the friend list right? i guess you may have a virus... or a trojan, or spyware...
and it had disable your cd driver, or something, better not uninstall anything else
better run ad-aware on your computer :P

YAY... so 5hrs of my life wasted... Dell support = teh suck! Somehow in my setup (when u press F2 on the dell logo) under drives, both my PATA-0 (master) and PATA-1 (slave ) WERE TURNED OFF... omg i am a genius!
