Looking for a new cell phone, please place your suggestions and a short review of the phone.

So far I have looked at...

Motorola RAZR V3i: Heard it malfunctions a lot, many people have this phone which is another downer [over popular phones become tacky], etc. However I like that its made of a tough material and seems very durable.

Motorola SLVR L7: Played with one at the store, seemed too breakable. Also heard reviews of the keypad breaking easily and getting dirty, etc.

Sony Z710i: Not out yet.

I'd settle for one of the free bricks you get with pretty much any contract, those non-flip ones.
What's the big deal, it's just a phone, screw all this omg my phone can play MP3, and take pictures and surf the net and make coffee hype.

Ok well

1. I already have a plan with Fido and I can't just get another free phone.
2. I don't care about how many features my phone has as long as its reliable (good battery life, doesn't feel like a piece of junk that will break in 5 seconds, very good reception)
3. Size and Looks are important to me because it a) needs to fit in my front pocket of my shorts, jeans etc. and b) needs to not be one of those tacky over popularized phones that every teeny bobber has because it came with their plan for free.

I have a gray RAZR from Verizon, it works very well, good battery life, good camera. I don't think it's a tacky phone, I think it's really nice. I haven't had any problems and I've had it since March, what types of malfunctions are there?

The screen is pretty good too, the sound quality and the speakerphone are good. It's pretty light, and fits into pockets well.

But I agree, the SLVR is way too fragile-looking, I'd probably crush it by sitting on it or something.

Anyone own a Sidekick II or whatever the latest is in sidekick style phones?

To Lyrai: I was reading one review where a guy replaced his RAZR phone 4 times in 6 weeks with problems such as the following,

1. System freeze
2. Keyboard light dead
3. Java applications freezing
4. Phone goes dead – camera on screen shows images as u move the phone – but no buttons respond. System has to be reset by removing battery
5. Talk time 45 mins max ( less than a qaurter of stated specs)
6. Standby time 24-36 hours max ( 15% of stated ? )
7. Hinge squeaking
8. Bluetooth headset ‘weak signal’ warning and cutoff within 1-2 mins of usage
9. Speed keys do not work – even though phone book shows it assigned to a key, pressing the key gets a msg the key is empty
10. Phone switches off and restarts frequently

Here is another review:

I got a great deal with this phone but I've had nothing but problems with it. The phones battery life is low and in spite of being in strong cell areas sometimes the signal just doesn't come through. I've had to reset the phone several times and that's all within a week. I've had it for a week and I hate it. I'm actually sending it back tomorrow.

RAZR sucks, looks good but the features suck. Why would you want a phone that can play vidoe but not take it? Or recieve Bluetooth but not send it?

Get a Sony Ericsson, best for features, looks and longetivity imo. Though of course the US is always a bit behind on Europe and Japan when it comes to mobile technology, but I'm sure SE has a decent range out in the US.

What ever cell you do get just don't drop it in a slurpee..... 3 times. I am of course not talking about what i did to my cellphone *cough*

Uh, you can record video with a RAZR, and while you can't send files through bluetooth from the phone itself, you can copy the files off the phone with another device. Which is easier than fumbling around with a cellphone pad.

Mine works extremely well, the standby is definantly over 3 days. Never really had a problem with talk time, I know I've gone a few hours without charging before. It's also first gen gray.

I've heard people say how they know people who've had problems with it, but mines worked great for nearly a year. The only damage so far is superficial normal wear and tear kinda stuff like scratches in the paint(none on the screens or lens)

I work for a CDMA cellphone company. Our best selling phone is the Nokia 3155. It's a simple flip phone with no blue-tooth, no camera, no video, but is very sharp and works amazingly in low-reception areas. It can also stream live TV, but that's more of a pleasure rather than something needed on a phone.

Also, check out Phonescoop for the latest, greatest, and best reviews on any phone. Just type in the number (say 3155 for example).

I like my Kyocera K2 Swivel Phone. It goes about 4 days standby without needing to be charged, and when in used, it gets about 5 hours straight without charging. It has a little nub for an antenna that you can pull out, but I have never had to even in low reception areas. As for the size, its about the size of one of those stupid nextel bricks, but thinner.

I still think you can get better features with decent looks for less price than a RAZR. Youre paying for the width.

I just bought the T-mobile MDA http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/Detail.aspx?device=8802ddeb-1ee4-477a-9608-d9cd1e2a903f

I love it. It was a little pricy at that cost, but it does everything and anything you could possibly ask for. Its great for me at school to keep track of things, since i am naturally very forgetful.

The only problems i have encountered are...
A) Its big, i like a big phone, but most others dont. Id say its apprx. 2" x 4" and a little less than 1 inch thick.
B) The reception is a little tough in some areas. It has no external antenna, and is kinda tough to get reception in certain places, namely my black hole of a bedroom.
C) I had one more thing but i forgot...

Good Luck

i've been with sprint for nearly 7 to 8 years now. have never had problems with them (but i'm sure a lot have, of course) but i bought their version of the RAZR called the BLADE a year ago. so far so good.

Cost isn't my deciding factor but I would like to keep it under $250 USD, can find most good phones for less then that from Wholesalers on Ebay.
