I love the CoP storyline, at least what I can understand of it. Unfortunately I skipped a lot of cutscenes at first, so now I'm not entirely clear on what's happening. I get the basic idea, but i'm having difficulty putting things together.

Does anyone know of a plot summary or analysis online?

I love the CoP stryline and CSes, especially at the back. Maybe you can try watching all the CSes? If you want to do that you can find the CS replaying NPC from ffxiclopedia.

If not, here's a guide to the storyline on Erecia's CoP site, http://promathia.runtimerepairs.com/Plot/index.html.

It is not complete yet, but it is updated until CoP 3-5, so maybe it covers the areas you missed out.

Lol... that's actually the same site I linked to, except less crappy. I guess they must've moved locations. Wayback machine tends to suck at replicating sites they way they really were

The problem with History of Vana'diel is that the storytelling style originally started out excluding the player from the plot summaries, since effectively the player really *was* just a bystander in the events of others in many quests and the earlier missions.

Unfortunately, that's complete and utter BS in CoP, since the player themself is an integral part of the plot. Still more unfortunately, the site kept with its pattern of excluding the player, which makes for some very misleading rewordings of events or attribution of player actions to this or that NPC.

I'm much more a fan of Erecia's plot summaries, but unfortunately she's only done through 3-5.

Awesome, that caught me up perfectly.

Well, not quite perfectly. There's something I don't get about Bahamut.

***Potential plot spoilers, don't read if you're not past Three Paths***

How come Bahamut gets pissed and starts shit with Jeuno after the Zilart shoot web on him in Chapter 2?

Like, they never explain it, and now I'm on the Airship fight and Bahamut's got his team of badassery, just blowing up Jeunoan airships willy-nilly.

Should I know at this point why Bahamut's so pissed?

***end spoiler***

I believe that's mostly explained before/after the 4-2 (Ouryu) fight. Might be filled in at other points though. You meet him again in the CS after the 6-4 (Mammet/Omega/Ultima) airship BC, so some more of this stuff might be explained then too. Basically:

Spoiler:
Bahamut knows that the Keeper of the Apocalypse is descending on Vana'diel with the intention of absorbing the Emptiness from all the people of the world. If that happens, Vana'diel itself will be destroyed.

So, as a terrestrial avatar and a guardian of Vana'diel, he's basically taking an attitude of cutting his losses, and trying to save Vana'diel at the expense of its people, by killing everyone off so there isn't anyone for the Keeper *to* absorb. Jeuno showed up in the first place, in 2-5, to try to capture him before he assembled his wyrms to start that process, but that got screwed up, so now they have to take an armada of airships to fight him and his wyrms instead, in order to keep the people of Vana'diel safe.

Diabolos is doing something similar, by siphoning people into his dream world of Dynamis. (Which is incidentally not *all* corrupted and filled with hordes of murderous monsters. The Dynamis areas we can enter are corrupted for a reason.)

Thanks Vil, I had a vague idea that that was going on, but didn't quite make the connections. Man, Bahamut is such a bastard.
