Yeah, it is lvl based, I already knew this, and I don't know if it was always the same price for any lvl before, but ever since I started playing about a year ago it's been the same way.

Remember, there was a rather recent update (in the past six months, I want to say) that effectively changed the formula for chocobos. I just wish I could find the listing that stated where exactly.
The change you're recalling was how prices scaled down over time while no ones grabbing Chocobos. They increased the rate so prices went back to the base quicker.

You can, it just takes a while so the stench of his brother wears off. Last week or a week before that I tried to take the pay Taru in Whitegate, he told me to basically buzz off since I smelt like his brother, but I haven't taken the free taru in a while because I well haven't been to Aht Urhgan, and I went there tonight and was able to take the paid taru in Whitegate, I don't know much time must elapse without using the free one before the paid one will let you use his services though.
