I know they are making it so Special Abilities and Magic can't be used to claim a Notorious Monster for a few seconds after it spawns. And it resets the ability's timer if you DO attempt to use it. Well basically this means you have to attack it manually to claim it. This pretty much makes flee a mandatory for NM hunting, which I guess is understandable. My only question is basically doesn't this make people using the really fast crossbows/guns/throwing items instantly get nearly guaranteed the NM since they can range attack the mob far sooner then someone can run up to hit or flee->run->hit. This more than anything renders mages completely unable to claim NM at upper levels before a THF or RNG or NIN at same level. I wonder if they will make Ranged Attacks un-usable to claim NM as well or if they will just hopefully do away with this whole concept.

This change was already added to the game in a past patch. I don't know why they listed it again. It hasn't changed much.

Do you know the delay of how many seconds after appearing you have till abilities will work on it?

If you can see it, you can claim it.

no. if you try to claim it immediately after it spawns, it wont allow you to claim. there is like a 2-3 second grace period depending on your connection to allow all people regardless of location, an equal opportunity

This is old news... They are tooting their own horn saying "Hey look we are trying to help"

It has made a real diffrence as latency is no longer the issue that it once was, so now HNMs come down to who has the best bot compared to what side of the ocean you are on.

Read the patch notes again Skaw, they say why they listed it again.

The following measures were introduced in the version update on August 1, 2005 to further alleviate the issue.

-The command /blockaid was added.*(1)
-"Trade" offers could no longer be received from characters on a player's blacklist.
-Players were made unable to use spells or abilities to claim a monster as soon as it appeared.*(2)

They were just showing what they had previously fix to try and adress the MPK issue, and told us that they would try a different approach this time.

get the fuck out

as for mages, its possible to claim any NM if youre not completely retarded
everyone Has to wait until it can be claimed. spells can beat range attack and a right times spell can beat voke and vice versa

You can't attack the mob at all after it spawns, flee doesn't make the difference. Ranged attack is blocked like everything else.

this doesn't really change much, if you can see the NM the likelyhood is that you can use an ability on them... the real measure they need to employ is upgrading their NM cycles and drop rates, if they want to get rid of gil sellers in that aspect... for if supply > demand prices go down...

the nm pop times and drop rates weren't quite set up for how many people there are in the servers now

the game will force you to wait if you spam the ranged attack button

however, if you select a target and then switch to the NM once it pops, the delay is nearly non existant

low delay xbow = teh winnar, tested this many times while farming

i've only been stopped mid-shot once out of i'd say 30-40 times, and that one time i managed to switch to the mob as it popped by pure luck, to the point where the target landed on it as it was fading in

but if you do it just right, the delay problem will not interfere with your claim
