Changing Nation

I think you lose this arguement Skaw (and that's the permanent kind you are insisting is the lone definition of lose)

Sure, ok.

It's still misleading to say that CP is lost when changing Nation allegiance. I don't lose my Monk levels when changing to Beastmaster.

Lose is a varied word that can be applicable in multiple instances. The principles of losing is just basically not having something in the present that you had in the past. Now if you want to go as far as to say its lost "forever" ok... but if you just lose something, there's a possibility to regain it in the future without applying the context of "forever". Opening debate on such a word is like conflicting essays based on opinion: neither is fact, but could be applicable in certain situations.

Yay for semantic bickering. Why don't we say "perma-lose" and "temp-lose".

Perma-lose: you lose when you switch, you don't get back when you switch back (though you can redo them again).

Temp-lose: you lose when you switch, you get back when you switch back.

Keep: self-explanatory. Carried over regardless of allegiance once you get it.

Conquest points: temp-lose.
Outpost warps: perma-lose.
Country mission progress: temp-lose.
Country rank (kinda obvious consequence of above): temp-lose.
Airship pass: keep.
Dynamis access (the rank 6 prereq): keep.
Zilart mission access (rank 6 again): keep.
Special area access (top of Heavens Tower, president's office in Metalworks): temp-lose.
Anything mog house related, like furniture: keep (although you go to a different country for it of course).
Ability to help people with 2-3, 5-1, or 5-2 BCs after you've done them yourself: temp-lose (until you do those BCs again for your new country).
Ability to help people with 6-2/7-2 or 9-2 BCs after you've done them yourself: keep.

(With the last two, it basically means the shared BCs between countries, you have to have done your *current* country's version to help someone else with the BC. If you've done it in country A, switched to country B, and haven't done it yet in country B, you can't help. Even though you've done it in country A. You have to either switch back to country A, or (re)do the BC in country B, to be able to help people with the BC again.

However, the unique-to-country BCs, once you do them you can help with them. Even if you're no longer a citizen of that country.)

Windurst missions have a few extra things ...

Ability to get a Portal Charm: temp-lose.
Portal Charm itself: keep.
Ability to get a Dark Mana Orb: keep.

With a Portal Charm, you keep it once you get it. However, you do have to be currently Windurstian to get it in the first place, to the best of my knowledge. Ex-Windurstians can't get it. Dark Mana Orb is like unique to country BCs - you have to have finished Windy 9-2 but you don't have to be *currently* Windurstian when you beat Fenrir the next time thereafter.

we are we are.... the youth of the nation...

sorry. popped in my head when i read the thread title.

i must have miss 60 minute... what is a dark orb and what is it used for?

hmmm.

On the topic of semantic discussion...

The definition given for "lose" [Lose - to fail inadvertently to retain (something) in such a way that it cannot be immediately recovered] is accurate, but I must say it is a poor example that they have given.

"You lost the dime under the couch." Implies that there is no way for you to get the dime back for a long time.

Like "He lost his mind." or "He lost his life". No way to get em back.

If I lost my conquest points, then that does indeed imply that I can't get them back by going to switch nations, which I can do at anytime.

To me, lost also means that you don't know what happened to target of the verb, be it keys, life, mind or conquest points. If you don't know what happened to it, that would make it not readily available for recovery.

Moral of the story:
Lost was the wrong word to use, but it was clarified later on in the same sentance. To kire's credit, it wasn't even a run-on sentance!

Lost = acceptable
lost =/= correct

This has been semantics 101. I'm your host trippyhippy, and to you, I say, Goodnight.

If you've completed Windy 9-2 (this relates rather importantly to Fenrir) and then beat Fenrir, in addition to the whisper you also get a key item called Dark Mana Orb. (Well, once. You don't get it every time.)

Take the Dark Mana Orb to the Star Onion Brigade kids after doing their whole series of seven quests, to get one final cutscene to tie it up.

The SOB quests, Windy missions, and Fenrir are all related, see.
