I was wondering if anybody knew about changing nations or changing your citizenship. Do any penalties apply, etc?

You can't keep the same rank that you had in your other nation, you start from 1 and up on the nation you choose, takes a bit of walking but is easily done.

What rank are you now? I suggest you get Npc and Ballista liscense when your 30 and rank 4 because those aren't taken away when you change nations.

The only "penalties" are that you can't enter Chateu de Oraguile until you get the letter for 2-3 to take it to them, and the other head houses of the other two nations.

There are other penalties but its much farther into the game like no sea access, etc.

I think its about it, changing nations depends where your from and who you want to see. Sandy nation guy for changing is the npc(can't remember name) in Northern sandoria via zone to a ronafure zone, he is clad in red/crimson armor.

You retain your rank with your original nation, and start at rank one for your new one. If you return to your original, you get back your previous rank.

Key items, like the airship pass, are not lost.

However, you will lose all outpost warps. Permanently. You have to do them all over with your new nation. Even switching back cannot return them. [Incedentally, this is the reason keeping me from switching over to Windurst.]

I can't remember what happens to conquest points, but any items bought with them are still fine.

Also, you are not allowed to change nations if you're in the middle of a mission.

Conquest points go to 0 after the change I'm pretty sure that is what happened when I did it

Marstonia is San D'orian and he's Rank 3-3 and has Max Fame in Sandy, Bastok, Windy, and Jeuno; but I started Minimarstonia out in Windurst, and he has no fame, no missions, nuthin (he's just there to heal me)...So I was thinking of switching Minimarstonia over to San D'oria. Thoughts?

It's kinda irrelevant to bother. Your current nation really only affects the mission storyline you see, the outpost warps you have available (i.e. your country's ability to take over a region with a useful outpost so you can do a supply run there to unlock the outpost warp), and the CP items you can purchase. Oh yeah, and your Ballista team too.

Aside from country missions (and then, only the ones with BC fights - Windy 6-2/9-2, Bastok 7-2/9-2, Sandy 7-2/9-2) and the odd quest, it doesn't really amount to a hill of beans which nation you or anyone else belongs to, certainly not your second character that you don't even care about doing missions on. :P

Well, I suppose you may run into the occasional odd player who goes "I will only associate myself with noble San d'Orians, down with you filthy strip-miners and you hippie tree-huggers" or something, but most people are a bit more sensible than that and know better than to discriminate based on something as silly and meaningless as in-game country allegiance.
