When Drecan was a child he was told from his parents that we would be a great mage someday. Drecan’s parents had made plans to send him off to Windurst to learn to control and advance his magic there in school. Drecan had always dreamed of wielding a sword and striking fear into all that pass him. His parents on the hand knew only death would come from wielding a sword in hand.
When is came time for Drecan to set off into the world to make his way to Windurst he witnessed a man that wielded a sword in battle but had also come to use magic to help him in battle.
Drecan nervous as could be walked up to the stranger and asked how it was possible to wield a sword and cast magic in battle at the same time. The stranger then replied that he has taken on the job of a Red Mage. The stranger could see that Drecan was confused and he then asked Drecan where he was heading. Drecan said with dismay that his parents are forcing him to head off to Windurst to the school of magic there. The stranger then said that he will guide young Drecan to Windurst because he was headed there himself.
Drecan thought about it for a second then introduced himself to the stranger. The stranger then introduced himself as Mcdouglas.
During their travel through La Theine and Valkurn Dunes Drecan was too nervous to ask any questions that he might want to ask McDouglas. Finally while they waited for the ship to Mhaura in Selbina; Drecan then asked him how he got into the job of being a red mage. McDouglas then replied that his family wanted him to be a great warrior for San D’Oria but he wanted to be able to cast magic. Drecan’s eyes seemed to get brighter then usual and told McDouglas why his family was sending him to Windurst and about him wanting to wield a sword instead.
McDouglas told that it would be best if he didn’t just rush into battle trying to use a sword then start to use magic. He told him that he found the red mage job to come more easily to him since he first learned to control his elements and healing abilities. He then continued to tell Drecan that just being a mage period gives you an advantage in battle as long as you have the intelligence to learn your foes weaknesses. Soon the boat came and they were finally off to Mhaura.
McDouglas told young Drecan to stay in the bottom and now to come above no matter what was going on. Drecan sat there and contemplated all the things McDouglas told him about being a red mage. Then he started to here the cry of battle above his head and young Drecan felt helpless being down in the pits of the boat, and so he sat up and went to go see what was going on above him. When he finally opened the door he could see men and woman who had fallen to the fiends that had invaded the ship. In a pit of rage against what he had just witnessed he began to cast magic on the beast and not knowing what to cast just casted all that he had. McDouglas who had not seen Drecan come above, but heard his cries of pain came to assist him in battle. After the battle McDouglas told him that he appreciated his efforts in assisting him in battle but he explained to Drecan that he was far too weak to take on the fiends that invaded the boat.
Drecan was quiet for the rest of their trip to Windurst, thinking of all that he must learn to become stronger and be able to fight along side someone like McDouglas in their continuing efforts to keep the beastmen at rest.
When they finally arrived to Windurst after traveling thought the peninsula, the mountains and the canyon, Drecan was astonished by the mass of the city of Windurst. He could also sense the magic just flowing through the air and into him. McDouglas and Drecan bid their goodbyes to each other, and Drecan ran off to start to learn how to use and control his magic properly. And thus this leads to current day where Drecan is still learning how to harness his power more to work amongst the warriors, thieves, and the all powerful and much appreciated white mages. And as his story continues so will his never ending battle to bring the beastmen from rising through out the land.
