Ok, someone mentionned this to me last night, talking about camping NM and bird whistle came on the subject.

That person was saying that charisma influences the power of your voke, meaning it would give more hate and helps keep aggro....

Really not sure about this, never seen a WAR with a feather collar before. What do you guys think of this, anyone ever actually experienced that?

usually when i was a war i wear a spike necklace, it was very good, ive also as well never seen a war with a feather collar, you can try and buy the spike necklace or the tiger one too, it gives good strength

Lol, Scarlette, don't think you'll see me running around with a feather collar and silk subligars trying to tank!!! I use spike or fang necklace to when I play my WAR! lol

I'm just asking if anyone actually knows if Charisma influences the strenght of Provoke or what's your thought on that.

There's never been any definitive proof supplied that chr has any effect at all on the "strength" of provoke. And even if there were, there are just much better stat boosts to be had from that neck slot (ie, medieval collar or spike necklace).

that may explain why some of the pld af has chr traits

Perhaps, but Provoke is a war ability...

but chr may power up enm

True, but like I said, there's just never been any justification. I mean, war's get an int boost from one of the AF pieces. WTF is up with that?

I've seen a couple tests on chr's affects on provoke and it does work. If I can remember right, the test went like this: two lvl 15 war/mnk mithras went to south gustaberg. Both were in the nude with the exact same stats. One equiped a bird whistle (+3chr). Both then went to an unarroged worm. First the one without +chr voked quickly followed by the other (test was over before anyone was hit and lost hate, they were outside melee range). Then they alternated and let the one with +chr voke first and the other voke immidiately after. This was followed with both attempting to voke at the same time. After they did those three tests they swapped the bird whistle and repeated the tests. In every single test, the worm turned toward the mithra with the +chr.

Interesting. But still, practically speaking, there are much better stats to boost rather than thinking about the "potency" of provoke.

Chouzan, I think you are right, there are better abilities to boost for a WAR rather then CHR. But for the time that I played as one, I always did everything I could to get and hold aggro for the entire lenght of the fight. Ironically, I always say that if a tank dies in combat, it means he is doing a pretty good job

I am still not sure wether I would get a few more CHR point, but it is my understanding that the role of a tank is to do anything in it's power to hold aggro. I guess that's why you see more war now with great axes and equipment that boosts strenght, more damage=more hate.

Maybe (and this is just supposition) at higher level, where BLM are outdamaging a WAR big time, DRK are slashing mobs with scythes, THF are SATA at will, RNG are shooting boosted arrows and DRG do Pentha Thrust for over 1000 dmg (heard about it, never actually seen it) that extra CHR is just what you need to keep the attention of the monster focus on you.

Plus, maybe it helps putting a party together, you CHR boosted babe magnet!!!! lol

Edit: What if you look at this the other way... will less CHR lower your enmity? What if a BLM or WHM lowered it's CHR on purpose to get less aggro from to monster? Just a thought, don't know if anyone tested that...

Sure there are other stats to boost, but why do just those when you can do both?

Take this macro for example:
/equip ring1 +chr item
/equip ring2 +chr
/equip neck +chr
/equip head +chr
/wait 1 (if its even needed)
/ja provoke <t>

And a second macro that requips all your normal tanking gear. You should be able to get the voke in with only 0-1 hits taken while wearing the lower def gear and some extra free hate. It's something a tank could toy with at least.

Seeing as how a war should already be carrying around a set of tanking gear and a set of damage gear...Add in some charisma gear, and before you know it, you're out of inventory space to store all those awesome and valuable drops, like earth crystals and rock salt :D

By the way, this topic makes me think of Charisma Carpenter (for obvious reasons)...so that's good.

I always did it on brd without problems. Full set of mp gear, full set of +chr gear, and all the instruments would add up to more than another full set of armor.

I remember seeing a interview from squaresoft and it said that chr does not effect provoke but does effect certain weapon skills. Like dragon kick.

I think CHR influences HATE in general. I was bored one day and looked at the AF version 2 for thief. Most of all the pieces had enmity+ and one of them had CHR+5.....why?

Why would thieves need enmity+ and CHR+?

Well...the theory was that the enmity is transfered to whoever we SATA off, so it is to enhance SATA in terms of hate tool. The CHR must work in the same way.

hmmmmm still the enmity makes sense but CHR........

sorry /rant off

Paladin AF gear also adds CHR as a stat. My current though is CHR is a base stat like DEX. In the same way DEX is calculated into accuracy, CHR has an effect on enmity, but I still have not had a chance to make any tests for it.
