Is checking without asking wrong?

Just curious what qcdn community thought about this. Personally i thought it was rude to /check without asking. Lately i feel as if its wrong to think that way. is it?
 
I think it us, unless someone has a bazaar up.
 
I don't check people without asking, unless I know you pretty well. Thats just how I've always been.
 
I don't have a problem with being checked, i'm pretty proud about my gear, but i understand that it is considered bad manners to just check somone.

This is my first game like this, and it took me a while to learn the etiqiute of this game, from blind invites in the dunes(even in qufim :oops: )

Learning that some other games actually have rules and reprecussions for checking people without permission. i think its kind of ridicoulus, but it is what it is.

I'll have to admit to checking people when i see armor i dont recognize, hopefully they have a bazaar up lol.
 
I used to check people a lot before I realized that some people thought it was rude. Then I made a /sea all <t> macro, which I use like a mini-check that the other person can't know about =) I try to avoid actually checking people if they don't have their bazaar up, and if I really want to (high level PLD for example) then I ask first.

3. Why don't you want people to check you? What are you hiding?

I think a better question is "Is it more wrong to tell people what they can or can't do", especially when it does nothing to you except maybe hurt your pride.

If you have good gear, be proud of it, unless you are a gilseller.

If you have shitty gear, be ashamed of it, and I will check you and so will others, so if you dont want people to check you because you have crappy gear, then get good gear.

I've been around since Early December 2003, and till this day, I still think that people who think being checked is rude are quite... stupid?

Oh and please dont give me the culture lecture, I know more about the JP player base and NA player base than most people here, especially since I live in both time zones...
 
I only check if they play the same job as me and are around the same lvl, just to check out gear. Or i check if someone has some nice gear i would like to check.
 
I don't consider it rude to check, but I realize others are uncomfortable with it. So I just stick to checking friends. I never saw the reason for being upset about it.
 
I just don't check people I don't know. Some people are touchy about it so I don't feel like upsetting anyone (though I don't understand the big deal). If they have that bazaar up though, I'm checking them like a mofo.
 
i dont care if ppl check me... cause it's virtual and not reality... so who gives a fuck... and if ppl get their pussies hurt cause someone checked them, then they should just filter it out... no biggie there... a lot of ppl send tells asking if they can examine me... i just respond "i dont give a fuck, just do it, i dont care" 'nuff said.

Most NA could care less if you check them

Most Jp throw a fit if you check them but whatever.

in any case it all comes down to 1 thing... "Video Game"
how is it rude to use a Commande in the game thats there to use?
 
I don't check anyone unless they have gear on I've never seen before and I want to see it. Curiousity always gets the better of me >>

I usually check members of my PT when were about to XP together. Other than that, I usually only check if I see something I've never seen before.

I still say the /check filter is there for a reason, I've had that thing on for almost a year now, just cause its less spam on the chat log.
 
Well I see nothing wrong with checking others. I check ppl all the time and ppl check me and to this day I have never been sent a tell saying that it was rude that I checked them. The only thing I can find rude is if the person keep checking and checking and checking then that could get annoying. Other wise just ignore it like all the shouts in jeuno for teles :P unless your a whm that is :D
 
It's ok for people to check once. Take a good look, but however, it does make me agitated when someone examines me twice in a row. :lol:
