I check anyone I feel like, JP or not, bazaar or not. I've never gotten a tell saying it was rude, nor do they ever start changing their equipment so I can't look or run away. People might have cared once, but I don't think they do anymore. :P And you know what? I take it a step further and take pictures of any interesting equipment they have just in case Allakhazam doesn't have a pic of it yet, then put my name/server on it and send it in if they don't! So there!

But like everyone else has said: that's what the feature is there for, and that's also what the /check filter is there for. If by chance anyone did /tell me saying it was rude or something, I'd just respond with

Even if checking without asking became "rude" as the game norm, people will still do it. IRL people bud in line, people are errogant pricks for no good reason, people steal seats.....etc. None of these examples are law but are "unwriten" laws of politeness. What SE dictates ingame could be considered game Law. With this perspective, it isnt against the "Law" to check someone unannounced but : rudness is a subjective thing, especially in a multicultural environment such as final fantasy. I personally dont give a rats ass if im checked but asking first will avoid any posibility of insult. Is it really so hard to ask or are you "why should I have to ask, how stupid" people so hard headed and narrow minded to not look through someone else's eyes. Think of what others may want, not what you deem to be true for them.

Can someone please tell me what is rude though? haha

I just fail to see any reason for it to be a "rude" gesture. Unless you spam check, then I really dont see a problem.

I just don't like being checked repeatedly. Like 2-4 times in a row. I mean, seriously, if you didn't get a good enough look the first time around, slow down.

A lvl 30 whm checks a lvl 30 war and see's he's wearing lvl 1 armour.

lvl 30 war tries to cover up the fact that he's gimp as hell.

lvl 30 war >>> WTF?? Don't U know its rude to ck people?
lvl 30 whm >>> Oooo I"m sowwie, Should I have asked first.
lvl 30 war >>> U got that right mutha fuka! Back Off!
lvl 30 war >>> How rude

I don't think that there is anything wrong with /check. Yes, it can get intrusive when you have a bunch of people checking you at the same time but other than that, big deal. I see it as curiousity, which is part of human nature. So, what is this person's job, what kind of gear do they have. Though, I usually don't /check a person myself to be honest unless they are wearing something I haven't seen before. If I'm curious about what a person is levelling and etc, it's /sea all.

What is rude, though, is when somebody checks you more than twice. Two times is okay because maybe they want a second look at a piece of your equipment but past that, there's a line to be drawn.

Yeh this guy named Zoir or something checked me at least 800 times when I was in a party last night.....

Also, best retort to being checked -> /em examines herself too.
>P

from my experience in past games it was widely considered rude to check people. However like stone under a current Ive worn from my stance and tolerate it now. It has nothing to do with my gear, just a personal opinion. Like others said, what I dislike most is multiple checks

/point Devi  :D
