With the modern strategies involving faster kills, can Chi Blast even prove more useful than meleeing anymore?

chi blast is only really usefull for a full time penance rotation now. With 2 monks fully merited, the target will have 25% TP nerf full time.

In short, no.

The little longer answer, alot of jobs can give more tp-less, or close to tp less dmg, in less time from a greater distance. If you need tp-less or distant dmg, chiblast is always the least favourable option.

lol....595 on a chi blast, pathetic. Although I'm sure it wasn't at full power...or something.

Well so BBT's shell still uses chi-blast...I guess what I was asking is, now that I'm lvling mnk again, when I get up there am I going to need to work on getting my mnd gear set back or should I not even worry about it?

If MNK is your only job, then i'd say yes get a MND set but if you have other jobs leveled i wouldn't bother.

Edit: unless your other jobs include PUP and/or DNC, they don't count.

It depends, but most likely, if you're only MNK and want to be useful, then yes. Your problem is with such a lack of diversity or in the case of a single job, no diversity at all, you cannot change jobs to fit the situation. In the case where feeding TP becomes increasingly bad or you just cannot do decent physical damage, Chi-Blast is the only reasonable option left open to you. However, without a diverse range of jobs, you really preclude yourself from several activities and can even hurt your chances at end game activities especially when the sole job you chose lacks an pivotal role.
