So tonight I decided to try something I had been toying around with the past couple days. Usually I run around in my usual trio, but as one of us was out of town for mother's day I decided to give it a go. I walked out into the Marid area in the Thickets and looked around a bit to see if anyone was actually meleeing their Marids down (Typically there are a few groups of 1 or 2 BLMs sleep>>nuke>>sleeping them to death).
I came across an odd couple consisting of a JP MNK/NIN and BRD/WHM who were douing the Merids. I noticed the MNK was using his WS (Asuran Fists) to kill the Chigoes as they popped out (Overkill) so I asked him if he would mind me killing them for him. He spoke decent English and of course agreed. (Who wouldn't? Considering he was blowing alot of damage just to kill little fleas that were taking down his shadows.)
I had been in a PT earlier today and gotten reasonably close to leveling, and had my Fire 3 scroll in my inventory, waiting to be used. After the first 2 fleas, which were a pain, (since Chigoe are resistant to wind, I've noticed) I got my level 71 and learned Fire 3. This is when the fun really started...
A ruteine build up where every time a Chigoe fell from the Marid, I would immediatly gravity it, then run off and Fire 3 it (1-hit KO). I was rather easily getting myself chain 4s for 161 xp, in roughly 5 minutes. The Dou was killing much faster than before, everyone was happy. It was a symbiotic relationship. This went on for a couple hours, with a good 20 minute break in the middle for all of us. I got 5k into my level and capped my Evasion again, which is the only capped skill I have at the moment (Those little buggers are quick!).
Throughout all this, I had occassionally been announcing when I got chains and good xp aloud in /say. This usually spurred little "Cool"s from the JP dou and little happy faces and other normal stuff. What I didn't realize was apparently everyone else in the area had been watching me as well. I can only assume out of boredom while they sleep/nuked stuff. As an after thought, I can see how amusing it might have been watching me scurry around.
Well the time came to go, and the duo informed me that they were gonna kill one more and call it a night. I thanked them for letting me kill their Chigoes, and they thanked me for killing them and we started on our last one. At some point durring this fight I managed to aggro a tiger for the first time all night, which I promptly slept then killed my Chigoe, and saw another one spawn. I ran over and drain pulled the next (since Gravity's recast wasn't up) and it proceeded to remove what was left of my stoneskin and start ripping my little Taru body to shreds (Chigoes attack extra fast, so they interrupt you frequently). I went running off trying to get some distance, but things were only getting worse, when all of a sudden 4 cures of multiple strengths landed on me and 3 nukes hit my Chigoe! It seems no one wanted to see their source of amusement for the past 2 hours die. I thanked them all and got a few [Take Care.]s and lots of laughs and smiles. The dou asked me if I needed help with the tiger, which I had just reslept and this point, but I declined as I was about to warp anyways.
All in all it was a great night, and alot of fun! I'd like to give recognition to Xeno and his BRD friend, who's name I forgot while typing this. They were super awsome, to the point where as a MNK, he noticed himself sometimes countering the first Chigoe swing, thus dropping my xp off it, so he would turn the moment one dropped! I'm still really psyched as it was so fun, and I felt like I would share. Sorry if it was too long.
