Restricting Access to PlayOnline from Certain Access Sources

In order to further improve the security and integrity of FINAL FANTASY XI, we will be restricting access to PlayOnline from certain access sources. This restriction will continue until further notice.

Interesting. Although, it's really sad that innocent people may be affected by it.

There's no way they're restricting china, Sage Sundi has said himself that it will never happen, they have other methods of doing it.

Whatever that means, I would assume he's restricting a different type of access point, perhaps a subnet.

I'm pretty ignorant about the topic. Does this mean certain network setups or ISP will be disallowed from connecting?

wonder how china will take this or at least those in charge of the rmt companies, since Japan and China historically have been at each other's throats about issues.

but maybe I'm thinking too deep into this

Yeah, there are plenty of legit Chinese players out there. Albeit there are certainly more Chinese RMT than players.

SE should do what most banking websites, like Bank of America do (<3 them for this), if you are loging into a POL account from a different computer or console then you have to answer a security question only you know. Seems effective too because you can restrict who can get on your character like friends and stuff.

Lol, someone on BG got hacked, and was talking to Tech support online, and he suggested this. The Techie replied "But then a lot of people would call us because they forgot the answer to their security question."

There may be certain ISP's out there that SE has noticed are being re-used alot by Rmt activity.

Obviously, they're planning on blocking Spanish IPs.
Those damn Spaniards. Always up to no good.

They're probably gonna do stuff like bar multiple connections from the same IP (probably like 4+, I doubt they'll kill off dualboxing from a single IP...).

It's possible to do this atm as they recently added a new feature on pol : you have the possibility to register an encrypted key on a usb device, and when it's not plugged it won't allow you to even open pol.

I could see mass numbers working, but yeah they wouldn't kill off 2 or more, there are a lot of familys playing the game, I've met a full husband wife son daughter x2 family all playing ffxi together, it was kind of creepy.

Easiest way they could work it, is if a certain IP generates multiple account that get banned, then ban that IP. Because if just 1 account gets banned then if any famly members play that will ruin if for them, but if multiple accounts are getting banned from 1 IP it is obviously RMT or frequent hackers.

well least there still steping in right direction. Think securty question be best thing then they can also get away from having to use the reg code to validate that you are you.
