wasn't there suppose to be some area added where you can take your chocobo and others can view your stats?

Yes. It's called Camp Kweh, and it's entered by speaking to a new NPC outside the stables (sounds like they're all dressed in SMN hobo gear).

You have to be in a party with the other people, which shoots down my hopes of a nice open air chocobo breeding bazaar. Still, at least you get a chance to confirm the merchandise before you pay for a card.
