Chocobo Blues

So I raised my chocobo a while back to adulthood (since I was told all chicks are yellow) and its not blue... so I'm all sad. I really wanted a blue one >.> So now as I let it slowly die as punishment for not being born blue, I'm trying to find a more definite way of getting a blue chocobo.

I was told if I use an egg from both parents who are blue, the child will be blue. So, anyone with a male or female blue chocobo want to help me out? I need one of each, obviously, but I don't know what needs to be done. I haven't investigated the whole breeding thing yet.

You need a card from the mother and father choco, then you trade those to a kid in Upper Jeuno, I believe, by the stables, to start the breeding process. That cards are buyable from bazaars, so it's possible to look around and buy one randomly (there are bound to be choco-mules like that around the stables, the cards will show the name and gender of the chocobo associated with it. Oftentimes the seller of the chocobo-card will conveniently name the bird after its color, making it an easier shop!)

If you can't find any in a bazaar, someone else is sure to have a card you can use!

Note that two parents of the desired color is not a guarantee: non-yellow chocobo color seems to be a recessive trait. And if SE did any halfway decent implementation of genetic heredity, then it's especially not a guarantee if the parents are first-generation chocos of that color.

Nevertheless, it's still better odds than going with a store-bought egg. Having said that, I've done the breeding process four times in hope of a red choco and have come up with a yellow one each time. (So if anyone feels like donating red choco cards - particularly second+ generation where the parents were red too - I'd be much obliged.)

I have a blue Male Card; Both his parents were blue. The father was store bought, and the female had one blue parent. However, I have bred my chocobo two yellow birds and the both of them have had blue offspring, so he has dominant blue genes.

As for females, my boyfriend has one. She's the daughter of my blue bird, so if you don't mind the taboo of what we in the horse business call "line breeding" (read: incest), I can ask him about setting you up with her card. She has one yellow parent on the female side, but if you don't get a blue one from that cross, I can set you up with my green female, which would give you a better chance of a coloured bird.

The green female is from a blue/green cross (another one of my stud's girls). I gave Lanien the green female and blue male cards once, and he got a green, but that's because he wanted a green, so chose the plan the would take after the mother's traits rather than the male's. So I can guarantee that my birds have a really high chance of throwing colour.

Whenever I've bred for colour, I get the honeymoon ticket that favours the parent with the colour and it's worked for me.

I'll be on Sunday afternoon and evening if you want to give me a shout in game if you're interested.

Zeph was kind enough to give me a blue male and is attempting to nab me a female. But if anyone has a blue female, I'd appreciate it and save her the trouble of grabbing it lol.
