The FINAL FANTASY XI development team has finally addressed everyone’s cries for a system to raise their own personal chocobos. As announced at the FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2006 in Santa Monica, this new feature will be introduced in the next version update!

Raising Your Chocobo
[Basic Concept]
Think of chocobo raising as an upgraded version of gardening. You can raise a chocobo by taking care of it for a minimal amount of time each day over a span of roughly 1-3 months, so even players with little time can enjoy this feature. Your chocobo may come in handy when it is fully grown!

[Chocobo Eggs]
Your first step is to get hold of a chocobo egg. Each egg is encoded with its own specific genetic information, and some players may come across an extremely rare variety…

[Caring For Your Chocobo]
You must work together with the chocobo stable employees in order to properly care for your chocobo. Feeding your chocobo and spending a bit of time with it each day will gradually build trust. You will be amazed at how your chocobo grows!

Chocobo Variety
Chocobos differ based on their color and type…and possibly more. Naming will be handled in the same way that dragoons and puppetmasters select their wyvern or automaton’s name, but there will be more options than ever before!

Matchmaking
Match up your chocobo with your friend’s chocobo and see what happens. If the match is right, you could end up with a new baby chocobo!

Scores of other exciting features are scheduled to be added in the next version update, so keep checking the main site for more information in the next few days!

you know how cows have a name stamped on there but? a choc like that with in red IGE.com :P
 
I'm so hoping that the chocobos have different attitudes, nothing would please me more to see a chocobo kick off it's master in the middle of an aggro zone, too funny. Chances are we won't be seeing some really good chocobo's till months after the patch is out, with the time it takes to raise one, and then the breeding aspect, I suspect SE will be forcing us to use some rare and expensive food to maximize the chocobo's potential. I wonder if Chocobo's can leave you if you don't feed them for prolonged times, that would suck.
 
Maybe I'm being rationalistic here to where I'm really not thrilled here but, what gain do you get from raising choco's? Can you call them like npcs?? Increased riding time? better digging results? Reaching previously inacessible areas?
 
Hmm.....I wonder if we'll be able to bet on the winners of the chocobo races, like horse racing. O.o Gil {Yes, please}
 
How about the chocobo skills from FF7? If I breed a gold chocobo, can it run over water and mountains and the such? O_o Never have to take an airship/ferry again!

Personally, I'd just be happy if you could call it like an NPC to ride anywhere. Sometimes hoofin' it back to an OP at 3am can be a drag...

If I had to guess...around june 18
 
I expect at least at first that the Chocobo Circuit will be pretty much the only place you'll be able to make any sort of use of your choco, and that it'll be handled much like Assault, accumulating points that you can use to buy gear otherwise unattainable.

They might let you run around with 'em tho, we'll see...
 
I bet you my left nut they'll make it so that if you wanna be a 1337 Choco Raiser, it'll cost ya like half of Deci's fortune a month.

Green Chocobos!
Blue Chocobos! lol

Lol All right... meh maybe. I doubt they'll add them and make them the same way in FFTactics.

Forgot about Gold Chocobos as well.

I like that SE said that their gonna have this setup to be beneficial for the player who doesnt have alot of time to play each day. Sounds like it'll be pretty easy to raise a choco. Now....to raise a l33t choco....thats another question i'm sure.
