It was stated in the June 19 Topics that a chocobo’s appearance would change along with its attributes. Due to an extension of the testing period, these changes will now be implemented in a following version update.

I'm getting the feeling that chocobo raising was really thrown at us in a state of development. I think the reason for this is that almost everyone was upset when it was announced that the update early this month would not include the chocobo raising feature, and that it would be implemented in a later update. Despite the our reaction, SE should just have been more honest about the state of the chocbo feature and told us it would be ready in {insert month name}.

The reason I say it's like it's still in the state of development is because of two main points. The first, is the quote displayed above from the PoL website. No colored chocobos. I can deal with that, as much as I'd like one. The second thing is this whole resting bug that I've been hearing about. Your chocbo cannot wake up once you make it rest. How the heck does someone miss something like that? It gives me the impression that SE was like "Hmm...it hatched alright, it's yellow, seems to react to care....animation seems good, {All right!} lets put this into the game!"

We all know that didn't happen, but somebody must have had a huge hangover to miss something like not being able to wake up the chocobo. Anyway, what are your thoughts on these issues? I'm enjoying chocobo raising as it is, and I hope to start breeding them once the time comes (1/3 of the way there ^^). I just wish that a little more though would have been put into the process.

I think it's a bit foolish to think they'd get something like this right on the first go.. the whole game is in a state of development since the updates, I wouldn't expect this to be corrected for quite some time. Hope I'm wrong but c'mon, it's SE... you know they're gonna take their sweet time about it

Uh, they said that the appearance changes as they go up in certain stats. There is only ONE chick model, and thats yellow. Just because it didn't hatch red doesn't mean it won't become red eventually.

I've heard of them waking up. What most people need to realize is that when the trainer talks to you about the plan, it's not a summary, but rather the begining point for the day. If you set Resting for 2 days, then the trainer talks about resting for the second day, the second day is going on, it didn't end.

Here is the ONLY confirmed issue with chocobo raising. If resting was bugged, it would be in there by now. People need to learn how the system works before claiming it's broken. That is the fine print. They put the "chocoguys" in for a reason. Use them.

This is an MMORPG.

Everything is considered "in development".

Skaw: See the quote at the top of my first post. It's from the bottom of this page (Posted August 22).

As for everyone saying that things are always in development, I suppose that's true. Still, things seem a little....off with the whole raising thing. I hadn't heard of the chicks waking up though, maybe I'm just reading posts by people who don't know left from right, if that's the case, then my mistake, and I retract my statments in my OP.

One thing we all have to remember is that SE can't make every new add on to the game 100% perfect. There will always be the one or 2 bugs that will pass them by. Whether or not it messes up our idea for a chocobo porno market or not.

The way I see it, the chocobo comas work something like this:

- Chocobos regenerate energy at the beginning of a new day based on how full they were the previous day, and use up a corresponding amount of food. If they were starving the previous day, they regenerate little or no energy. If they were full, they regenerate to full energy (and depending on just how much energy they needed to regenerate, how full they will be today varies).

- Subsequent to this energy restoration, the care plan is put into practice. This is the one that was labelled as "current plan" the day before (and Plan 0, the day before that). All of these, except Rest (yes, even Basic Care) will deplete energy somewhat. This is why even under the best of circumstances, your chocobo will start out every day with a not-quite-100%-full energy bar. Rest, however, will increase energy somewhat.

- If the chocobo results in having no energy (for example, it had little or no energy, it was starving so it didn't recover much if any energy, and it was sleeping so it couldn't be fed), *or* if the aforementioned care plan was Rest, then the chocobo will be sleeping. The latter case is normal and intended. The former case is the "chocobo coma".

- Solution: if the "current plan" isn't already Rest, change plan 0 to Rest (and, naturally, you'll have to wait two days for that to actually *happen*; one day if the current plan is Rest). Even when starving (so its food won't recover any energy), Rest *will* recover some energy. Once it's recovered enough energy via Rest, that some other plan that'll take away some energy (such as Basic Care) won't send it into a coma, *then* give it something other than Rest, so it'll be awake. And of course, once it wakes up, then you can feed it and the food will restore the rest of its energy the next day (and after that just keep it fed and don't use up all its energy).

- Preventative measures: make sure your chocobo stays fed every day that it's awake, *especially* a day right after you used up a lot of its energy (since it will be starving the next day). And on any day that the "current plan" is Rest (read: the chocobo will be asleep tomorrow and you won't be able to feed it), don't use up a lot of its energy. If you did, then tomorrow it'll be asleep and starving, and you can trigger the coma.

(Or, simpler, simply make it a point not to deplete your chocobo's energy below, say, the halfway mark, under any circumstances.)

even if ther eis a bug few people realize something. they do test things and re test them but they can not simulate a production server. a test server does not operate the same as a production server that we play on every day. So what happens is QA usually will give an addition the go ahead after its been tested to death internally and when it his the production or game world unexpected things happen. everyone is so quick to jump on them but many fail to truly understand the enourmus task they do in all these systems and making them work.

100 different varaibles from other things and systems running in a game server may effect the new feature and cause many unknowns that the dev team may not have ever thought of. aside from the resting issue the system appears to be running fine and I have had no problems I understamnd its frustrating i empathize there. But remember its a MMORPG and thi sgam eis always in a state of flux.

err.. I can't access the PoL site from where I am, but your quote at the top of the page doesn't say anything about coloured chocobos...

there's no misunderstanding here. it's broken, pure and simple.

Actually it is bugged. Resting that is. I set mine for 1 day of rest and it just woke up today... 3 days later. Also if you talk to a GM about it, which I did, they will even tell you that it is bugged and they are developing a fix for it. Then they tell you to report it like they do with eveything else.

my chocobo has been sleeping for 4 days now, even though his care plan is basic care. And my Rest care plan was only for 1 day.

So yes, it is bugged. My chocobo keeps losing affectign towards me as Basic Care keeps depleating it, and not to forget that he is currently starving, which I can't do anything about.

edit: and I have bad luck with GM's... called a GM two days in a row, and every time I go afk for 1 min, the GM responds, and then leaves me since I didn't respond -.- And both days it was the same GM, so I think she's rather annoyed with me <.<; just left me with a "... bye"

Ah, that would be lame >< When I read that I took it to mean features as stated in a previous topic:

Appearance
The appearance of your chocobo will change depending on the attributes it acquires. These changes will affect a part of the chocobo, such as its beak or legs, rather than change its appearance entirely.

I am still optomistic that we will have different colored chocobos.

You're correct. I suppose I jumped to concusions, but when it says "chocobo’s appearance would change along with its attributes" it sounds like they're speaking about color. I haven't read anything about chocobos getting all "beefy" if they gain strength. Perhaps they're only refering to height or something.

I do this at work, althought not nearly as much as they must need to do. Everytime I push one of my applications to production (or even staging) something seems to go wrong. Anyway, to me it still seems like a huge thing to miss.

Sorry Lan, it sounds like I may have jumped to conclusions there, though I'm not sure what else they could be talking about.

Well we won't know until later. It would be great if they're talking about the different sized beaks and legs, and still implemented color.

I totally agree with your OP Shome, it's frustrating when information is lacking, and bugs are implemented. I would definitly be for waiting if it means avoiding a major waste of time and gil.

It takes a month to do this whole thing, and I only want to do it once. So yesterday I switched to carrot paste in hopes that my chocobo turns a different color. If I find out later that color will be implemented later AND I have to start over... at the very least I'll be upset.

I have a feeling that not a one of the people saying "wah, my chocobo's asleep and it's not supposed to be" actually read my post ...

i read it, maybe you didn't see my screenshot

it says my chocobo is listening to music (as CURRENT PLAN)

but as you can clearly see in the screenshot, he's asleep, and has been for over 3 days now.

Bring up the care for chocobo menu and give me a screenshot that lets me see his energy bar. (EDIT: Also, a screenshot of the ask about condition thing, showing how hungry he is.) But in the meantime, I can say this:

1. He's asleep. This could either be due to a "coma" (i.e. he's out of energy, and starving, his care plans have been using up what little energy he does recover despite being starving, and so he's not waking up and isn't gonna wake up until he hits a care plan of "rest"), or because he rested *yesterday*. "Current plan" is more accurately said as "what he'll do tomorrow".

2. Tomorrow, 8/31, you'll get a report on how he was listening to music, and his current plan will be "walk in town". Day after tomorrow, 9/1, you'll get a report on the walk in town, and the current plan will be "walk in town". Day after that, 9/2, same thing. Day after *that*, 9/3, you'll get a report on the walk in town, and the current plan will be "rest". 9/4, he'll be sleeping because he's supposed to be sleeping, and the current plan will be "rest" again. 9/5, he'll be sleeping because he's supposed to be sleeping, and I couldn't tell you what the current plan will be, because that's on the next page from your screenshot. 9/6, he'll be doing whatever your current "plan 2" is ...

3. If you *are* in a chocobo coma (easy to tell if you are: it's sleeping when *yesterday's* "current plan" was not rest, and it's starving, and its energy bar is basically empty), then the solution is quite simply, change plan 0 to Rest (you may want to make it be 2 days to be safe), then plan 1 to something-that-isn't-Rest, and don't do any "care for your chocobo" stuff to drain its energy in the meantime. And then wait a few days for all of those to go through.
