What are the stats for the chocobos when you bet on them... I know the first four, color and sex, but no idea what the Element symbols mean, or the Arrows...

any ideas?

Elemental Symbols are weather preferences. Arrows are their orders. Two horizontal are Keep Pace, Up then Down are Sprint, Down then Up are Final Spurt.

I've got some questions about Chocobetting, I'll use this thread for them.

I spent about 8 hours and around 100k gil on chocobetting when it first came out. It was very foolish of me to spend it thinking SE knew how real betting worked. I saw 50k to 1 odds and placed a lot of bets thinking they would pay off huge if they won. Now on to my questions:

Has it changed any?

Is the money won still only money wagered, meaning 0 money is put up by the house?

Is it still random as hell? I understand that horse betting in real life is random, but it's not as bad as it is in the game. The stat rankings really have no bearing on how the chocos perform. It just seems to me like it's randomly generated what the stat rankings are, which is fine, but at the beginning of a race, when all other things are equal, a poor speed choco shouldn't be keeping up with an exceptional speed choco.

Like I said, it's been a long time since I've been back to the races, I got a bad taste in my mouth from my first experiences there. In my opinion it's a great idea though, and something that could be a lot of fun. But if they haven't made any changes to it since its inception then I'm still going to stay away.

Yes its still the same, if you are the only person betting on a race, the 50-1 odds will quickly drop to 2-1 or worse.

Its not entirely random, certain "classes" of chocobos have a higher winning percentage then others.. the chocobo names are random, but there are only a few types of chocobos.. the "racer" FC - FC - Poor - Poor ones, the "Mario" chocobos that have all Average/Better then Average stats, and then the "Digger" type chocobos that are Poor - poor - FC -FC. In a race with no PC players, more often then not the Mario chocobos will win.

I usually find picking the 2nd place chocobo is harder then picking who is gonna come in first.

Throw in a PC chocobo and everything changes, it almost seems that some of the NPC chocobos will scale up to the stats of the PC one..

Imo it is not worth betting on races. If there was 30 PC people in the circuit all betting at the same time, the potential is there for the system to be really good. In practice though its usually just one person betting, so even if you do win, the odds drop so hard that its not worth the time to wait for the next race.

The only money to be made from chocobo racing is by breeding/racing your own bird.

Thank you. That's great information. It is sad that they don't put more effort into this to fix it up, they've designed a very nice area that's empty almost 24/7. It's something that's a lot of fun, but the way it's set up now, it needs strong support from the playerbase to work.

The major flaw with it imo is the way odds are calculated. You should be able to purchase a ticket with locked in odds. It would require them to handicap the birds before the betting is opened, but it would increase participation from people that enjoy that kind of stuff. The way it's set up now it's high risk/low reward.

yeah, i have lost maybe 20k so far...

I just figured out how the toteboard works... but that can be misleading too.... It seems you have to do WAY too much research to even hope to have a chance.

I don't know how often SE checks the Alla feedback forums, or if they even do. But I put a post on there for suggestions on how to make it better. As it is now, it's a waste of money and time.
