Christopher Reeve Dies at 52

That's a serious bummer. I think a memorial session with John Williams' Superman score is in order. Tights at half-mast in his honor.

R.I.P.

First Rodney, now Chris.
Hope there's not a third any time soon.

/salute

Don't forget we also lost Janet Leigh and (to a lesser-known extent) astrologist Joyce Jillson.

I had such a crush on Superman when I was a kid. That little forehead curl got me every time.

What a sad day.

Here are some facts on Christopher Reeve courtesty of Launch Radio Networks show prep site:

# He was a licensed pilot.

# Turned down the lead role in American Gigolo (1980).

# Gained 30 pounds for the role of Superman.

# He and his wife opened the U.S.'s first center devoted to teaching paralyzed people to live more independently, in Short Hills, New Jersey, in 2002. Known as the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, the facility houses the largest US collection of paralysis-related publications. The Reeve family foundation has also distributed grants to paralysis researchers totaling some $22 million.

# One of the last characters that he was played before his riding accident, was a paralyzed individual, in the 1995 film, Above Suspicion.

# Ironically, at the time he was paralyzed he had been doing a film on horse back riding safety.

# Jane Seymour's son was named after him.

# He turned down the role of Fletcher Christian in the 1984 film, The Bounty. The part went to Mel Gibson. He also turned down the lead role in the 1981 film, Body Heat.

# He turned down two films that later went to Arnold Schwarzenegger - The Running Man in 1987 and Total Recall in 1990.

This one I found interesting ^ I can't imagine Total recall without da Govenator.

Enjoy these facts,

Mo...
