so, i was in sky like i usually am with my buddy grasinthor. we were FoVing it up and trying to pop despot at the same time. (yes i know this is a dead horse story, and this exact thing has happened to me many times before in the past. if you don't care, dont read)

so we pop despot, im on bst, grasinthor on smn. we duo it well for a little bit, somehow grasi dies. np though ive soloed despot on bst many times before... as you can prolly guess it went yellow for a sec and as i was siccing my new pet they claimed. ya i know, woe is me. this reminds me of the last time this happened to me... rmt stole but they gave it back lulz..

i just wanted to inform everyone that these two stole our mob. didnt respond til they killed it. then proceded to mock us. stealing IMO is wrong and always has been wrong.... but to me stealing from a bst or smn is just pathetic. the games gitched to where u lose claim sometimes and there's nothing u can do. people who steal from them... just not right to me... i would have gotten over it if it werent for the 400k' /says and chron /teing me talking shit when i tried to see what was goin on...


i dunno i was just very frusturated but ill get over it... just thought id let anyone who cares in on their stunt.... o lol... he had the nerve to tell me ' but wahh we camped it for 2hrs, we wrent gonna let you waltz in and take it' 2hrs is nothing.... camping him for 7 no pop when u got tod is sumthing...

I know this sucks for the people who initially got claim, but I firmly believe in the "yellow is free game" policy.

The way they acted by mocking you though is totally unacceptable. Added to my personal caution list.

thats some of what happened... i was a dick also. in the heat of the moment i was pretty pissed....
 
I don't blame you. I've seen it happen plenty of times.

When I finally got my Joyeuse, another group (of about 9 people) claimed Charby before my group (3 people). They had a NIN, a couple RDM and alot of melee DD. Someone engaged a Devil Manta while fighting Charby, so half their group was fighting a different mob. Thier NIN dies, their PLD dies, their RDM dies, their WAR dies, and the rest of their guys are resting.

Charby goes yellow. Being /RDM at the time, I Flash, Holy, get claim then put up Invincible to solidify hate before charging it back to the THF and BRD waiting.

The second we start fighting, a shitstorm ensues about how we stole it, bad characters, etc. ect. You know, ignoring the fact 4 of them were dead, their only tank was dead and they hadn't done a single action on him, causing him to go unclaimed.

Same thing here. It really sucks it happened. Never heard about this BST glitch, so I can't comment on that.

Are they entitled to it if it goes yellow claim? Yes, in my own opinion.
Are you valid in getting angry? Yes, because it sucks that it happened.
Are they right for mocking you? Hell no.
Are you right for giving them attitude? Again, in my opinion, yes.
 
Sorry Honch, while it may not be "moral" or the "right thing to do", they claimed a yellow mob. It's understandable that you were pissed at losing the claim, but I don't believe you can hold it against them for taking it when it went yellow.
 
ur case was different al. i see that... and broon ya i do hold it against them because thats sumthin i just dont think its cool to steal when someone is not dead. i was soloing it just fine...

Very well, you're perfectly entitled to hold it against them, and you could argue that it was a dick move, but what they did broke no rules. To play devil's advocate, they could argue that you let it go yellow, so it was anyone's to take; that's unless there's this glitch with BST that caused things to go yellow, in which case you could report that to SE. Otherwise, it's pretty much fair game, despite it being extremely annoying.

that amlost sounded like a GM lol jk. its just the way bst is... always been, when u pet swap it goes yellow. nothin you can do. SE wont do anything so ce la vie i guess

bsts always say that its a glitch, but they gave you and your pet independent hate tables for a reason. if it was a "glitch" i wouldnt have been around for 7 years. They left it in for a reason, my guess is that they dont want 1 person to have the ability to mindlessly throw countless flamingos at despot with little or no risk to themselves. Likewise, how they changed the hate system so that people couldn't kite endlessly without making actions against a mob.

You were not for any moment "soloing it just fine" you were zombie-ing pets at it, but imho each pet death and yellow name is a failed solo attempt

If it was me and I was there for a while, I would've done the same thing. And about the mocking.... they only mocked you after you gave them the POS BST sob story and threatened them with flames and dragging their names through the dirt. You expect them to hold back any elicited hostility when you yourself could not?

hm no comment other than you dont really know what you're talking about. i did get a little angry with em though i admit that. you werent there though so you didnt see it all... like i said that was 'some' of what happened

regardless, the "some" that you are sharing with us tells a different story than the one you want us to believe. By just the bits that are here I see a legitimate claim and you lowering yourself to their level... assuming they started it.

So really, even if things go the way you say they did, all this is really about is them being tactless?

meh, you blew off your steam, youll get more despots.

Getting pissed over a lost claim is completely understandable. Despot is a nice NM to claim in Sky and it feels good when you claim it. However if for some reason he goes yellow then most/(all?) shells think of it as "open season".
You see that everywhere, not just in sky. If its yellow, its free.

There was a time - a couple of years back - when I used to run with a Linkshell (Fury, a fantastic shell in my opinion).
The leader, if I remember correctly was going by this rule of claiming:

If the pt that tries to kill wipes, we claim it.
If the pt still have people standing, we wait.

I liked that rule, even if we didnt get to claim, it worked. Cause the shells that we were crosscamping in Sky, tended to work by the same rule (Rmts excluded of course). This is no longer the case and havent been for years.

When you started cussing at them, you were leading them on, giving them a reason to mark you for not being able to kill you NM. It sucks
but in all honesty, even if they were assholes to you, they did nothing wrong.

Personally I hate losing a claim, just like everyone else. But that is the rule of the game.

Next time you claim Despot, I am certain you will kill it and everything will be forgotten. You are a good guy Honcho. Dont freak out over such things like losing a mob that will respawn fast again.
 
i agree they did nothing wrong, but i believe honcho when he says they provoked him first, anyone here would be mad if they got despot "stolen" from them, and for them to mock them by saying they'd sell it is even worse. ill be sure to watch out for these guys honcho, thanks for the warning. and sorry about the gem:/
 
I recall back in my Fury days we were camping Ullikummi and then we saw a pair of Red Mages duoing it. They were doing it the slow and easy way and our leader said leave it alone unless they get in trouble and wipe.

It was frustrating however for a group in a sky shell needing that drop to watch two people taking ages to kill a NM.
 
Report it as a bug.

It won't do jack squat but it's the best recourse you really have. I've reported this as a bug; where the mob turns yellow during pet swaps. It should stay red until you or it is dead.


Alternatively there is a way to keep the claim 100% but it takes work. As a BST i'm plainly very surprised you don't know this or didn't employ it. I keep several charm macros:

1) straight up /ja "Charm" <t>
2) charm spam for claiming (basicly #1) repeated over and over on one macro)
3) /ja "Charm" <stnpc>


Keep your axe out.

Stay engaged on the NM

Manuevre yourself and the NM until you have a charmable pet in sight.
You may need to unlock view and use the mouse to rotate the camera.

When pet dies, /ja "Charm" <stnpc>. It allows you to remain engaged with the NM while charming your pet.

Done.


That's not the be all end all solution but if you are really on your toes, it won't go yellow. Shitty yes, but thems the brakes. I've HID behind the "it was yellow" when I claimed something so I'd be a hypocrite if I said they sucked for doing it. They sucked for taunting you though.

tbh people are still courteous now as well at despot. On 2 occasions that I was soloing/duoing it, it turned yellow and was claimed(back when I was learning how to kite despot). Both of those occasions I just talked to them politely saying that it was game mechanics they gave me the stone back. I then offered to help them w/ Zipacna or another NM in sky. It was a win/win for both of us and we all came out winners.

I agree though, Fury had a strict policy on not claiming upon yellow unless it was RMT, the courtesy wasn't always payed back though Danish guy... remember?

I remember spending 6+ hours at Ullikummi(pre diorite) while duoing it w/ a DD to have it turn yellow while chasing me, to have them claim and kill it. Shit happens, but I know you'll get over it honcho and get another gem :D
 
Thats the system, don't want to lose your mob? Don't let it go yellow. As for the mocking, Probably uncalled for, but I didn't care to read it.

Its been said a few times there is a "bug" on pet jobs. When a pet is tanking and it dies, sometimes the mob just simply forgets the master, goes unclaimed and in the same instant aggros the master. Its not about "letting" it do anything, the game just does it. That'd be like saying "Want exp? Then don't let the mob kill you."
 
If it's okay for them to do it to you , then do it to them next time you get the chance.
People aren't that courteous nowadays. They'll find some excuse to claim it right under ya, but yeah, I'll remember these names.
