Today as I was lvling Blm/whm (I was lvl 9 at the time) I came across a newbie Rdm who still had the original lvl one rare/ex starting gear. He was struggeling to fight a Quadav and was almost dead so I thew some cures and saved him. Obviously being new and not having any friends ingame he asked me if we can duo to help eachother out. I figured why not, I figured in the mean time I can give him pointers I even gave him $10k to help him get some new gear. While we were at the AH my friend signed on, he wants me to get to lvl 14 before this weekend so I can party w/him as his lv 14 Corsair so he offered to come Power level us. We met my friend near the entrace of the Konchstata Highlands and another newbie warrior lvl 10 asked to join us so we figured why not and invited him.... So now we are in the Highlands and we tried a couple Mist Lizards which were very easy and not much experience at all. So we tried a Gobby, My Whitemage friend points at a gobby so me and the warrior go to engage it and the Rdm runs the wrong way and agros 2 other gobs and we all get killed, the rdm homepoints, the War and I get a raise so we fight things while we wait for the RDM to meet back with us ( I did tell him next time if he dies let whm raise him)...So once the RDM gets back we try a few more gobby and get really I think 20-24 exp from each so we went further in and it didn't really get any better...So we went to the dunes to see if EXP was better (big mistake btw) We died again because we got agro from 2 gobbys while we were fighting a lizard. The point to my story is even though I probably would of lvl'd a couple lvls if it was just me being power leveled I had alot of fun...I ended up really getting no experience maybe less then when I started but it reminded me of when I first started playing this game...When i was that noob running around clueless. Has anyone taken a newbie under your wing and it made you realize how much you enjoy playing ffxi? Tell your story i'd like to hear it..

Actually, it seems like I had the most fun when I was helping some lowbies out. I was running around in sandy area's (ronf to be specific, i needed the blu magic >.<) and I see a pack of newbs just chillin before they took on one of the goblin campfire spots, I asked if they were killin gobs, and they said yeah, so I asked if they'd care if I joined them. This was actaully really fun. It was me and a jp puppetmaster with 2 newb wars. newb, not noob. these guys *wanted* to learn, and that just restored my faith in this game and some of the people that play it. Eventually we moved out to the plateau, and got our asses handed to us by an akbaba, we all died, and hp'd and party broke up, but i got a good 400 exp with them, and had some fun.

That's a nice story. I think the most confusing thing for me when I was brand new was the Auction House. Took me a while to finally understand.

I remember Neokarsh(now plays as Karshbrady, probably the nicest person I've met in this game) helping me out with the Sandy mission where you fight those Orcs in Ghelsba. The name escapes me. I thought he was god at level 15-20(was way too long ago). First friend I had in-game. Then another friend, Auronte, escorted me to Windurst from Mhaura after my first boat ride. It was these two things that made me want to learn and play this game more.

i havent taken anyone under my wing but i've helped quite a few newer players with numerous things. i try to help people realize that they are just new players and they are still trying to learn the game and not to get mad at them for some of the ignorant things they may do. lets all remember that we were like them at one time, and not everyone is able to catch onto things fast.

Too many stories to share in one post, but the majority of the LS members in my LS were new players who I had met, offered a pearl and then started helping them with whatever I thought they might need to know in order to play the game.

Best part is that now, these members are very skilled players, friendly and also offer the same kindness to other new players and often bring them into our LS because thats what we're known for... helping out the new guys.

I truly believe that if you make the game a fun experience for someone, you'll not only make a friend out of them but you'll be starting a little "cycle" because chances are they'll try to share that same attitude to others.

Great to see other players who go out of their way to help the new guys out :)

My first Character was a Hume RDM/THF. That I got to level 32, bought dispel, then decided I wanted to level RNG to sub to my RDM, since we had an archery skill and I wanted to be able to use archery WS on my RDM...

I ended up getting my RNG to level 42 in a static, at which point I got bored with it and started playing my Tarutaru Mule as a THF and then eventually as a BLM and WHM. I static'd my THF to 33. Then, because our DRK was retarded and despite countless explanations from myself and the 4 others, could not understand what it meant to stand still in a fight for Trick Attack, switched over to using BLM in the group. This group also disbanded at 42.

At about this point I took it upon myself to give RDM another go, but since I had learned BLM was a better sub for it than THF, by this point, I chose to do so on my Tarutaru, instead of my hume, whose BLM and WHM were level 4. Long story short, my mule became my main, and I have a mule with full mobility and inventory/storage space.

I was a WAR/WHM when it wasnt a death sentence lol. Realizing my stupidity, i leveled Warrior to 30 with a 9 MNK sub ><.

I remember being helped in my first few parties in Konschtat highlands, and so i try to pass that knowledge along when i am with new guys. A party of lvl 10 newbs can still pull good Xp in the dunes, while having much more fun than a group of stuck up level 60's that just want XP as fast as possible. I love going back (except after new jobs are announced ; ;)

I've been known to take new players under my wing from time to time - some of whom post on these boards now - and I have to say it's nice seeing the world through a fresh, non-jaded pair of eyes for a while, or seeing someone be scared of/impressed by things I don't even notice anymore. They'll make mistakes and have bad days and tell me about it via /tell, but they don't experience anything I haven't or something I can't explain. It's better to build new players up and help them learn from their mistakes than tear them down and drive them out.

Well recently I took a few people to Dangruf Wadi and got them their greens for the choco quest. Not being San Dorian I don't know what mission it was, but I helped a guy get his papers from Davoi. I took a few people to jeuno for the first time, on foot, I know we all remember that run. Was much easier as a 60 WHM. Um... I just help people out in game all the time so I don't know if they are a noob or not. Tell you the truth I can't even compare now to before, because if you ever need help and/or I'm not busy I always help. Oh I know one more, I took Atraiu up to the dragon in Pal. Mines and kicked the living shit out of him. Helped get rank 3 that day. I reallly can't think right now though, I'm pretty drunk.

Everyone needs a helping hand i remember giving 50k to a mithra named Perrfect or something like that.

This mmo requires that ya do things together not many things you can do alone.

Besides its more fun to learn together than to die painfully alone.

I do see your point though where enough is enough

I'm the gullible sort >.> My friends and I have spent hours helping out others. -.-;; Whenever one of us goes to level something. Tubuku and HoneyRoyPalmer are two people I started to help .Honey switched servers to Quetza from Gilgamesh, Tubuku is new. Clerisa I helped get through the dunes on her RDM and got her subjob for her. Then, while helping these new players, I met her again while she was lvlin' blackmage. So, we went from 14 to 19 two nights ago. There's a lot of other players I've helped, but it's pretty nice when you hear them say "I love this game" and you know you helped them get to that conclusion. Though we had more success going at it than you did Darkataxia, it was a good time. And I've made some great friends on FFXI because of it. I don't care how experienced people are or "what they could do for me" attitudes and all... It's just nice to talk to them, and know that we can play together.

I've helped a few people get their subjob items these last couple weeks. I felt bad when the party disbanded and they were left stranded, not knowing what to do. I remember getting lucky and getting ever drop before 18 for the subjob items, but they can be a pain if you aren't able to.

I took a newbie under my wing last week or so. He's a new Xbox 360 players, but he's not new to MMORPGs since he came from EQ after playing that for 2-3 years. Yet when I first met him I was lvlling my nin around 7ish or so and he had his whm around that same lvl.

He came up to me and asked if he could tag along and help cure me for healing skill ups, so I said sure. Actually at first he was a couple lvls ahead of me and asked that once I get to the next lvl if we could duo, so I said alright, that'll be cool.

So we duo'd together in Horotutu ruins once I hit the next lvl and it was pretty much the same lvl or one lvl gap. I could've gotten more exp over time soloing but it was fun helping this new player out with various questions he threw out, he shared with me some things on EQ too since I know nothing about that game. We tried to take on tougher mobs since I knew I had a whm with me and I was doing quite well on Nin.

He was actually a pretty good newbie whm. He knew when he needed to rest for mp, and he never let me die. Only once we both died because of an accidental extra aggro we couldn't handle and he was trying to fight it off but it was fine. I HPed and told him to wait there as I get my 75 rdm to raise him, plus I wanted to show him what a high lvl character was like and could do.

Now we're really good friends. I've helped him pass Rank 2-1 already and his whm is around 20ish now. I got him into my LS filled with a lot of people so he's learning new things off that, and I can tell later on that he'll be a really good player since he never asks for gil and such and right away got into fishing and already made quite the amount of gil himself from selling Moat Carp stacks and such.

So for all those who stereo-type Xbox 360 players as the noobish newbs, think again when you see a player like this who is a new Xbox 360 player, because even right away while ptying he could tell the difference between noob players and alright or good players.

Yeah I'm always patient w/them I understand they are learning...Also I'm so patient because people weren't as patient with me and I wouldn't want to make someone else to have to go thru that...I started out leveling a THF and my first party experiences in the dunes weren't all that great...They'd tell me to go pull so I'd go pull...I don't think I was doing a bad job but all of a sudden with out explanation someone else just started pulling instead... I felt that was really rude...How am I supose to learn

Some people are just heartless to others, but sometimes you get lucky and you get in a party of people who've posted on this particular thread. There is in fact nice people out there, it just takes some time to find them.

While I was standing at the AH in South Sandy a few nights ago, I heard a newby ask the magic question in /say:

"How do I make money?"

not,

"Hey, can I have some money?"

and certainly not,

"ZOMG! SUMBUDDY GIV ME TEH GILZ0RZ!!1!"

Believe it or not, that actually kinda touched me; took me all the way back to the first time I logged on. I pulled him aside, and showed him how to work all the Auction House features, and then I gave him some starter cash along with a couple of choice low-level synthing recipes. He's in my LS now ^^

A few days later, another guy fresh outta the box, asked me if I could help him do some quests for some cash. I wish I'd had time to really stop and help him out, but I had some friends waiting on me for a little co-op farming thing we have going on. Instead, I gave him some startup, and then explained to him the importance of learning how the Auction House works, learning all the shops and vendors, and with some words that I at least hope are wisdom:

"Remember - getting gil and *keeping* gil amount to much the same thing after a while"

It's new guys like this that really brighten my day :)

Yeah Reau i can't wait to see how all the new players we have as they develop in the game. I definitely see alot of potential in our new players. I love the fact that they are willing to learn. I had the pleasure of joining our new member in the dunes the other day and i was amazed at how much he had already learned. that was one of the most fun parties ive had in the dunes in a long time. It was definitely a change of pace for we need leetorz exp. it was really relaxed while they were testing out there abilities and learning their jobs. after the party had pretty much come to an end we had two players that were at lvl18 and still needed the items for the subjob quest so i asked if they wanted to wait a few minutes to switch to war and they were excited about it. needless to say the drops were rather good that night and i was able to get em all but their magicked skulls. it was really fun having them /checking me most of the time it was pretty funny i even gave them a few pointers on what they would need to do to start making gil and even explained to them why NOT to toss beastman seals

LOL tossing Beastmen seals is all i did, for the first 3 days. After i learned what they were for i wanted to beat my head with Gaxe. I saw a RNG/WHM lvling in the Canyon yest. At the time i was playing with my frds RDM, i asked him if he likes the job, and aked him if he wanted some sugestions on how to lv the job.
I proceeded to tell him how i lved to 23 solo, and asked him if wanted me to show him how to play it. So i took him to the maze and we duoed 3 worms, he was estatic to say the least. and with that i ended my nite. Ill log on today later on and see how he is doing, Id like for him to be a good RNG and not get discourage by those who only know how to bring down ppl.

I've taken a lot of new kids and helped them out. I think its because of the way i was raised in this game. Neyla was my savior i guess you could say. And even though recently i found out some info aboutem neyla will always be my "motherly figure" in game. Neyla helped me with every single windy mission except 5 and 7 which i solo'd myself (which helped other windurstians obtain with neyla later on).

Honestly, to me Neyla's signiture is how a lot of people feel because he's helped so many people. Neyla the next star syble.

I still remember thinking convert was godly "OMG you can take your hp's and make magic points". Best part neyla taught me though, dont pl TEACH!

lol and OMG how patient he is. Its so weird to think of the dumb stuff i did. lol like 4-1 magicite missions. Neyla will always do whatever she can to save you. man shes got a temper when i pulled some extream newbish stuff. like agroing a whole hall of yags and getting us both killed o.O

This makes me laugh, neyla was like 41-43 rdm when she picked me up somewhere in windy shouting lost as hell trying to play with mouse and keyboard like a fps game. I remember when she got staffs, blizzard 2 was cool we had fun in sara with that one lol. i remember my first macro though....

"/follow neyla"
LMAO

funny, sometimes i sit in sara and miss those days. wish i could go back, maybe thats why i created so many characters i wanted that feeling again. Best story, Neyla told me to only fight ep and dc mobs not tough (this was around lvl 5ish) and said she was leaving and would talk to me tomorrow. well next thing i know i'm dieing from yag agro and some how neyla just happened to "show up" RIIIIGHT lol. or the time me and my friend wanted to try and take a tough yag thinking we could do it. Neyla kept telling us no (we used to play on same account screwed with neyla so funny lol) and were like just let me die and raise me if i die i wana know for myself...

Neyla starts casting Raise on Pandorda

Those moments are great, and i love making them for others because its still a huge part of me and how i play. I never want to be a bad rdm, i do my damndist to be a good one because i look up to neyla, i was trained better then to be bad and i want to set a good picture in neyla's mind that she raised me RIGHT!

Neyla lol can i start a new job and we spend the next week in sara again lol. maybe you can run me to sandy so i can learn smithing again lol.
BTW the high xp/hr grind my friend installed on me. he made a character evenutally and was always party leader (he tought me how go figure lol). total ass did'nt care if he didn't think you were a+ material he kicked you and had someone else otw already lol. We lvld real nice then again i was rdm taru and he was war galka so it worked well.

o.O or neyla saying we shouldn't make a party for a few lvls since we didn't know much about it. Yet we got invited by neylas friend for first party and then made our own since then. My friend liked the control (he's a power hungry guy)

OMG good times and a good ramble. I <3 helping newbies they are the wave of the future and we dont want them sucking now do we?

Neyla used to do that with me also like stoneskin /drool it was soo cool lol. She did a lil show for me once so i could see some "high lvl magic" at lower 40's lol. good stuff good stuff.

lil brat has still never let me do anything for him. One day, One day Neyla ima find a way to HELP YOU!! stop being so selfish and let me lol shesh.
