Chrono Trigger DS

Dissapointing, but not really any different than what I already had read about it.

I have the Original and the PS1 port. I don't need yet another port of the same game. *sigh*

Chrono Trigger is my favorite rpg, but this just isn't worth buying at all.

If you have never played Chrono Trigger before, then by all means, get this and play it. But otherwise, there's no point in spending another $30-40 for this game.

I had the SNES and PSX ones and beat at least 10+ times to see the endings each version, also have it on my Wii (well SNES version via twilight hack) and beaten that a few times as well, and still plan on buying this version, I love portability, and the bonus dungeon, plus new translation will be worth $30-40 for me, touch screen functionality I'll never use probably, but will be interesting having the dual screen support.

I spent the same amount on the 3 FF Advance titles, which were just enhanced ports, I'd do this and more for CT which hasn't seen anything come out in 7 years since that godawful lagtastic FF Chronicles port. I think they're just testing the waters for Chrono fans, if this sells well enough maybe they'll get to work on a 3rd Chrono title after all these years.

Kind of a silly move, imo. I think they'd have done better to put it on the VC rather than put it on the DS.

For us yes, for SE no, port it for minimal costs, add a few extras, charge $35-40 for it, or bring to the VC and charge $8 for it.
With the userbase of the DS, it's a smart move.

Put as much perfume on is as you like, one (1) new dungeon and a few changed words of text are not worth the price of a brand new game. The only way I'm going to buy this game is when the used copies of it go for around $15 bucks at GameStop.

I love Chrono Trigger, but I mean come on, another port? SE could have done so much better. Besides, at this point I really don't care if they make a third sequel. I'd rather have a Chrono Trigger remake, like they're doing for the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. Now that would be worth my $30-40 indeed.

To you no, to me and a lot of others yes, FFIV-VI Advance sold well enough, and were the same as CT DS is shaping up to be.
And a few changed words of text? If they do a retranslation they'll be redoing the whole script, keeping in a few of Ted Woosley's cult lines like they did in previous ports.

And maybe someday they'll remake Chrono Trigger. They ported FFIV 3 times before they remade on the DS(PSX/WSC/GBA), FFV has been ported twice, hopefully it's next on the remake agenda, FFVI twice, which hopefully follows V if that gets remade.

CT DS is the second port of CT, and it's the first Chrono anything we've had since 2001, give it time, if I were SE I wouldn't have wanted to do a remake after 7 years(barring FFIII DS cause of name recognition alone), they need to test the market first, release this and make money w/o having to spend a lot, or spend a lot of money to do a remake. I can see a remake happening the next Nintendo portable system.

Would I have loved this to be a remake? Fuck yeah. But I still support this, hoping it leads to more.
I'm just glad they're doing something with the series after so long.

How could anyone ever want to sell their DS? It has one of the best, most unique libraries of any system or handheld ever.

I disagree :P it's only lately that it's had enough appeal to be worth the buy imo :D

Have they announced a release date yet?

Just holiday season 2008 for NA in the press release they sent out, no specific date yet. JP version is winter 2008, so I assume it's going to be one of the simultaneous releases SE has been talking about.

One reason why its such a good idea is because its portable this time around, compared to the other versions. Several FF games have been ported countless times, but are made better when released on a handheld

Ill agree, though, they could have "3D'd it up" or something. Everyone remember those Chrono Trigger 3d vids from long ago? Yeah, those were pretty neat.

Wonder if they'll show exactly what happened to them ......when they ...died in Chrono Cross. The cutscene with Lynx and Lucca's house burning.

The portability alone makes this awesome to me. On slow days at one of my work locations I bring my DS with me, it's that boring. Certainly gives my DS a work out, though.

I haven't played Chrono trigger since I had it on the SNES (Which I played it into the ground, got all the endings, etc.), and I think revisiting it with a few new features is completely worth it.
The nostalgia alone will be worth it to me, plus a new dungeon is intriguing. If they revamp the difficulty a bit, or add a hard mode or something like that, $30-40 is completely worth it.

Now I just hope that SE will bring us Nanashi no Game, that looks like good ol' creepy fun. D:

So yeah, I'm digging the information about the stylus use, dual screen, and whatnot

Also they're fixing up some translation, and the PSX anime scenes are going to be included(I hope along with the music player, treasure finder, and ending viewer) w/o the slowdown and lag of the PSX version, as well as plans for the original SNES game playable on a single screen on the same DS card for purists.

No news on multiplayer or the new dungeon, but I'm still definitely picking this up this December.

Having the scenes (And like you mentioned, the ending viewer etc.) without the lag of the PSX version (Which I could barely force myself to play) is awesome.
There's no question I'm buying this, haha.

I'll def buy it. :D

Tiael: I just read the links you posted and I'm definitely interested in the original single screen play through. :D About the lag in the PSX version... I don't know how the cartridge reading works but I'll assume it's relatively similar to a SNES cartridge right? So I guess it wouldn't lag, could also compare it to FFIV right now, I don't notice alot of lag between the gameplay and scenes loading.

Ok, is it me or the colors/graphics actually look -worse- than the SNES version?

The two bars below them are kinda interesting, could see myself liking them.

Looks exactly the same to me.

Well, it shouldn't look exactly the same because of resolution differences between SNES(256x244) and the DS(256x192 *2.)

I really don't care for screenshots of games, they usually look like crap compared to seeing the game in motion, and nah, they look similar to me, I just played the SNES version last month.
