Chrono Trigger: Ressurection

The game looks good whoever was making it did a fine job.

They got shut down because they were planning to sell it on Xbox and Gamecube.

If SE had any fucking sense at all they would of just bought the company out and carried on making it, it would of made at least double whatever they pay.

You could compare it to the situation with Halo Wars. There was a seperate company working on a RTS game but then Bungie stepped in to stop them. Only shortly after they announced their own RTS game.
So maybe SE has something in the works or maybe they are just cold hearted bastards that like to see fans suffer.

Nah, this Ressurection thing is from a few years ago. SE just cold hearted I guess..

or just don't like people using their copyrights without permission.

Yeah, I read about this a while back.
I share your pain, Chasym.

Still makes them cold hearted for not listening to the thousands of pleas of a CT remake.

Really cool looking. Wouldve been smart to just release it as Freeware instead of selling it. That way SE cant really do anything since they arent making a profit.

Their critical and mind-bogglingly, catastrophically fucking stupid mistake.

which anyone with common sense should know. Out of their ENTIRE TEAM, how could they not figure it out?

Maybe it was just a fake in the first place, though, and someone made a CGI for fun/to get their name out there.

nope, it was a real project, here's the official site

True it was a few years ago but that doesn't mean at the time a remake for CT was somewhere in the works. CT:R could have been viewed as a threat to a remake in the future. Also I'm not all too sure on copyrite issues and if SE had bought this little developer they would have saved money or lost money paying the developers royalities and such. <--confusing but sift through it.
But I totally agree if SE was going to kill the project they should listen to the fans and made their own.

Ohh, I see..

Well, they should have made it freeware still.. Im sure lots and lots of people wouldve donated to help the cause.

hehe, if they remade every game that fans wanted remade (like VI, VII, VIII, CT, etc) they'd never have anything new (though arguably they haven't had a real "new" game in years but.. we'll not get into that :P)

SE was in the right. People going around using shit they copyrighted and created (them and them alone) is stupid. Sony fucking up that same way is stupid (though that could arguably be different cause they did create it and someone just got to patent before them.. really.. that in itself is stupid cause if someone creates something and someone, who doesn't even really make it, patents the idea just to screw them over.. well ya.. but that's another topic). They were planning to sell it (from what i can tell) so their own fault. Freeware, I doubt SE woulda had a problem (and if they did, well that's pretty lame but still somewhat understandable).

Fine by me, the quality of the games from SE has been dropping steadily, I disliked 10 but recognize that plenty of people liked it, but from there we get the J-pop of X-2 to the convulted political ramblings of 12 and their best efforts of exploiting and squandering the name that is FF VII, to whatever the fuck is going on with the 7-8 different versions of 13 that there is going to be (read: scam) I would be more then happy if they stuck with re-releasing the classics with just new graphics.

Almost every gamer is not fully informed when it comes to topics like these. The way copyright works is: if you do not actively enforce it, you lose it.

Thus, even if a fan made game renews interest in an intellectual property, by allowing such a game to be made, the IP holder loses their copyright. In this example, if SE let Chrono Trigger: Ressurection come to fruition, a strong case could be made that they no longer own the copyright. Then you, I, or Joe Blow could start selling bootleg copies of the original Chrono Cross for $5 a pop, and SE really couldn't stop us. It's an unfortunate quirk of copyright law, but it's not fair to just assume the devs are coldhearted bastards.

wait, hold up. Are you really saying that copyrights laws come down to "if you don't use it, you lose it"? I really cannot believe it's that simple and factual. Even with the Fair Use policy there are limits on what you can recreate and I don't think you can lose your IP if you don't use it.

Copyright isn't like that, trademarks are though. Not sure but chronotrigger is probably trademarked, and therefore the rule applies that they have to actively enforce it or they lose it. It's not use it or lose it, rather it's enforce it, if you don't stop people from violating your trademark, you lose it.

Also making it freeware will not help at all, as it would of been shut down just the same, they can claim loss of profit from selling remakes on ps1 or maybe a future download since lots of the new system have small downloads these days.
