Leave it to Japan to probably start a weird trend. Shokotan is one of the top ten most popular bloggers in Japan as well as an actress, illustrator, and singer. I'm guessing a case of monkey see, monkey do will follow.

The streets may not be ready for Shokotan’s “cicada shell” look, but that doesn’t stop the multi-talented entertainer from decking herself out on occasion. Shokotan, who talked about her fascination with cicada molts and showed off part of her collection in a television appearance last year, showed up at a recent concert wearing the insect shells on her head. According to this article on Excite News, the crowd went wild at the end of her performance when she tossed the crispy shells into the front row.

lol Very nice. Because what I think of in the morning is "Hey, I don't feel crispy enough... let me put some bug shells in my hair." XD It's creepy, and I'm going to hope for their sake it's a fad that doesn't catch on.

Just... why? That is completely unattractive. And where does she get them all? I can think of a million other things I'd rather spend time on besides picking out bugs to put in my hair. They used to put boys in detention at my old elementary school for doing that to other girls.
 
I'll admit, a few doesn't look THAT terrible, but covering her fucking head in them is pretty gross.
 
Yeah, not that terrible. Except that she looks like she should start bathing in Raid.

Ah-ha. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but I see the problem now. The giant black apparently pupil-less (iris-less?) eyes give it away. She's a demon. That's where the bug fascination comes from, too.

(Actually, I think the big dark eyes are rather pretty.)
 
Well, that's disgusting.

Even if it IS the molt I can't pick them up or even really look at them for too long.
