If the dude was big enough to kick my ass, I fear for the average Joe that would try to interveine.

As would I, but I would appreciate any help.

Another scenario, this time with me the victim instead of the person coming to aide...

I was skiing once, slightly off-trail, but not out of bounds. I had skiied this spot MANY times before. But this time, for whatever reason, the ground gave way from under me. I fell down about 15 feet and landed on a boulder, skis still on.

Taking a moment to digest what just happened and where exactly I was, I realized that I was underground, having the great fortune of actually landing on this boulder. This boulder, the only one I could see in any direction, was the only thing that kept me from being washed away downstream in the underground rapids. The hole was too deep for me to manage to get out on my own. I needed help. Fortunately, like I said, I was not too far off the beaten path and a guy that was in earshot came to my rescue.

This example, the one about the car accident, etc. do not require violent intervention. I am saying you are a pussy if you don't help in these situations. If you don't have a guy 2 times your size, carrying 2 guns, what do you have to be afraid of? Chocking and failing to help someone? I don't know. What I am saying, is that I don't have those thoughts. When someone is TRULY in need of help, I have to help. If I am in the area, witnessing someone in need of help, and I walk away...That would make me a big pussy. You just don't run away from shit like that, and then tell people to go read a psychology book. lmao.

It will rarely work out in your faor to interveine in matters beteen couples directly. Bringing in some form of actual authrity is the best best for people who want to help. How fucking lame would it be if the OP were to get summons to court tomorrow for defendng that girl, only to learn that the girl is acting as a witness for her boyfriend to confirm it was infact the OP who hit her boyfriend. Of course the whole situation is bullshit and fucked up, but thats the reality these days. The boyfriend could easily convince the girl that their relationship problems would be fixed if they could get some money out of a lawsuit filed against her rescuer (his assailant, as the story would be told).

People are fucked up these days, especially women that don't call the cops and leave at the first instance of this, or similar behavior. The OP doesn't make any mention of wether the girl even cried out for help at all, but I'd be willing to bet she didn't...

Only, I am not speaking to strictly couples issues.
Yes it would be lame, but lame things happen in this country a lot. Which is why people puss out. Te country doesn't even back "the right thing" when it should.

Maybe she didn't cry for help, but Vondoom didn't just go over there and start beating the guy up either. He said to leave her alone, and tried to reason at first, which in many cases would be enough to diffuse the situation. People get caught up in "what if" this or that bad thing happens...Whereas, if a person or two would step in, they could thwart off a would be attacker with words only. If it comes to fighting, well, you're fighting for something you believe in...Show it.

Damn, what a shame..

So hold let me get your reasoning. You see two people in a fight so you run to help them without asking any questions? OK lets see Kid A, we'll call him sneakypants for shits and giggles, picks a fight with Kid B, we'll call him psylentcuda for more shits ang giggles, thinking he could easily win. When Kid B(me) starts to kick Kid A(sneakypants) ass and all you catch is B kicking A's ass you run in and tag team kid B. So now Kid B has to fend off two people that attacked him for no reason. GREAT!!!!

see what jumping to fucking conclusions does for you.... obviously in this situation when the girl's trying to run away and the guy throws a metal ball at her someone steps in yeah... and once the OP stepped in there is no need for anyone else to come. More people mean more confusion, more confusion lead to more aggression, more aggression leads to people get hurt that didn't need to be hurt

so having said that...I think i'ld be hilarious if you tried to jump in a fight I was in because I'ld fucking break your legs on the basis of being an uneducated troll.

You're just sore....Pussy.

I love the modern euphemisms... "Diffusion of responsibility", "bystander apathy", or perhaps the rather apt "Genovese syndrome".

Any of which can be boiled down to cowardice.

Here's another euphemism for you: "Civil Courage". Guess what that one means?

Either way, if you are witness to someone obviously in need of help and do nothing, that's cowardice, plain and simple. You're afraid to get involved, and you let that fear govern your decision.

no fear and feeling of necceisity are two different things.... when you see someone and others see them to, the thought process that americans are raised on causes the "fundamental attribution error" and we decide the dont need help...

As a note to sneaky: WTF dude, I'm done. Why am I going to get into a fight with someone who's diction is so horrid. You know like five words :You, the, pussy, are, and I. Take a note from Raesvelg and educate yourself before you look even more stupid.

And why do you feel I am bothering to give yu my very best?
With proof that you aren't worth it, "pussy" covers the bases just fine.

If someone's berserk enough to attack a woman in broad daylight, the vast majority of people are gonna avoid bringing that wrath down upon themselves. You can call it being a pussy, as much as anyone else could say the opposite is naive and foolish.

A person attacking another in broad daylight is a good sign that the attacker is not concerned with normal social issues at that time, and is acting out in a self defeating way. If the person cares so little about repricusions towards themselves, what makes you think that little switch, in the back of our minds, that stops us from making a killing blow in a fight is functioning properly in them?

This is, to me, a cop-out. I never said I wasn't afraid. For all I knew the guy could have been the 2003 Golden Gloves winner and wiped the floor with me. As far as I'm concerned whatever he could do to me would be tenfold on her small frame. I rolled the dice, despite my reservations, and got lucky. To be quite honest, I expected others to be at my side being that this attack was so heinous in nature that there was no doubt whatsoever that something needed to be done. The "deer in headlights" reaction, or inaction I should say, sickened me more than the assault itself. It's behavior such as this that allows the fourth plane to hit the White House next time.

This example has stuck out in my head since your first post. Very true.

You wont hear me disagree with you, but copout or not, those are some of the thoughts that go through people's heads.

"Sorry baby, daddy's not comming home, seems he steppd into a fight at the gas station to save some junkie."

Yes, but it didn't, so doesn't that prove that there are more people out there willing to step up than you think?

Yet if everyone banished that thought and got out of their cars to kick some ass, junkies would think twice before pulling shit out in the open.

Von's just asking people to have some balls, not to be heroes or fucking stupid. It's not really much to ask, sticking your neck out there a little bit for someone who needs it.

Junkies are f'ing crazy. They wont think twice about anything. Hell, your lucky if they think once. And besides, the whole thread is starting to piss me off. You guys are getting pissed that people arn't risking their lives to help others. Get off your damn high horse.

Here's a story for ya: A guy I know(Matt) was at a bar. He noticed some guy being a dick(I dunno if it was to a girl or guy), so it told them to knock it off. The guy waited with a few of his friends for Matt, and beat the shit out of him. He even got stabbed. Spent a few days in the hospital, and wasn't back to normal for a few months.

So was it the noble thing to do? Yes.
Was it worth it? No

Junkies don't think, thats what makes them junkies, and not just habitual users. I was relating this story to someone else tonight and an interesting point was made. Who carries a curling iron with them? Something tells me she was living out of her car.

Well, from Von's example, what if crazy fucking wife beater had a gun? Or even a Knife? Von's lucky that the guy didn't get into his car and try and run him over.
