I just got a report on Civic Literacy in America. It says Americans failed...

Take the test. It's only 33 questions and simultaneously fun and scary trying and remember high school civics class. I fail at remembering anything about the Gettysburg Address....I scored 69%. :irked: bah!

Not great -- most of my errors were questions dealing with economics -- but hopefully I won't be mocked by Jay Leno anytime soon.

I got the same as Halif. A good chunk of that isn't a general knowledge kind of thing, so I don't feel bad about not getting a higher score.

You answered 27 out of 33 correctly — 81.82 %

Honestly, that's a lot better than I thought I was doing.

You know.. I never had civics in High School. But I can only guess it's something like history? I never took a college course on it either, so I don't really know what it teaches. So, I kinda don't think I could do very well on this quiz thingy. Though I may try it later on.

Meh, I can't sleep.

I scored below average, which wasn't too surprising. It's actually higher than I thought I'd score to be honest. I don't remember ever having a civics class and the majority of questions hold no relevance to me in my daily life. On a larger scale as a citizen, sure. I don't really care though. I'm a one day at a time kind of person and I take things as they come.

32/33 - 96.97%. I missed 13, the one about Sacrates, Plato and Aristotle. Total brain fart on that one.

Eh, 23/33. My high school didn't exactly have civics, just basic US History. Blah blah, George Washington, blah blah, civil war, blah blah, World War 2. Not exactly what I'd consider the most fascinating of classes.

Civics teaches about how governments operate and the role citizens can play in the process. History is part of it though. All my civics teachers also served as history teachers during other class periods. They go hand in hand.

Considering I lived in the country, I feel ashamed not knowing/remembering history or some laws.

While many QCDNers did quite well, the rest shouldn’t feel too bad. The study says that over 70% fail the test (scoring less than 60%), but the average score for December (for the on-line version) was 74%.

I wonder if that means that people who take the on-line test generally know their civics stuff, or they consult books while doing so. And no, that’s not accusatory. ;)

Six of the questions were taken directly from the U.S. naturalization exam. I’m a little embarrassed that immigrants who have taken that test probably know more about this country than I do.
