Civil Liberties <Where?>

Wait what? Watching child porn isn't bad?... So using drugs isn't bad, as long as you aren't selling them? Is that why people don't go to jail for possession? No wait, they do.

I can't even fathom why anyone would think watching child porn is acceptable.

No, using drugs isn't bad. Almost everyone uses some sort of drug all of the time. Some drugs are very bad for your health assuming you take them too frequently. Alcohol and tobacco are a couple of the most disgusting and dangerous drugs out there. Over the counter drugs you can buy at Wal-Mart are generally more dangerous than illegal drugs like weed, piperazines mdma, lsd, and shrooms.

Watch the video I posted for a basic overview of my opinion on child pornography.

Seems to me like Britain is slowly turning into a police state, most of the steps being taken are utterly useless too, if your going to track EVERYONE in the country your going to have to sort through mounds upon mounds of shit to find someone doing something illegal. Also we can't forget how easy it is to spoof an IP address.

The saddest thing is that this massive waste of time and funds is going to be directed at things like child pornography and terrorism while violent crime in the UK is skyrocketing. Their response to that is to ban handguns which account for only a small portion of crimes. That horribly failed so next they banned swords which accounted for an almost non existent number of crimes, and now there's groups calling for 'long pointy kitchen knives' to be banned of course stepping up street patrol and increasing sentences didn't happen that doesn't serve a police state nearly as well as a gun ban does.

And people in the US complain about the Patriot Act, that's not nearly as bad as what they are doing to you guys in the UK. Not to mention we have the Bill of Rights, which would make it much harder for the laws passed in the UK to stand up to a supreme court challenge in the US.

Also, in reply to Raesvelg about the "three strikes" thing. What about "major" non violent crimes that hurt no one else?

-Tax evasion
-Refusing a draft
-Being in possession of a fair amount of drugs

I think these are all things that EVERYONE should do in order to stand up for their rights. You can't just throw everyone in jail. There shouldn't be a draft. There shouldn't be an income tax and drugs shouldn't be illegal. They should be regulated. Should people like that be fired into the sun just because they disagree with what a few idiots in D.C. say they have to do?

Yes, because it's not what a few idiots in DC say they have to do, it's what the majority of the American people say they have to do.

We elect our representatives. They serve our interests, at least in theory. If we decide that they do not, we can choose not to elect them again.

If the majority of the American people were to begin a serious push against those three things, they would no longer be illegal.

So yes, if you were to refuse to pay your income tax, get busted (at which point I'd probably just say we force you to pay back everything you skipped out on, with interest), subsequently dodged the draft (at which point we definitely enlist you, and keep you for, say, an extra two years), and finally came home and started buying significant amounts of illegal drugs for illicit purposes, sure, shoot your sorry hippy ass into the sun.

I sure as hell wouldn't miss you.

You have labeled yourself as a habitual offender. You are free to go live somewhere else, we don't control emigration in this country to any particular extent. If you refuse to respect the rules of society as defined by that society itself, then I have no use for you.

No thanks.

I had to take medication for 8 years for my kidney's, I will not liken myself to someone who can't go a few hours without snorting cocaine. Nor will I ever think it is ok for someone to watch child abuse and get off from it.

So people should just do whatever they are told and not stand up for themselves and what they believe in?

Minorities and women shouldn't have ever stood up for their rights? People during the alcohol prohibition should have just done what they were told? No one should ever protest? Slavery = freedom? I think not.

Wow. Way to throw random assumptions at someone you don't know anything about. You have the idea of "drug user" and "drug abuser" very very confused.

If you think freedom = being able to do drugs and watching child porn, then I think some black men might want to have a word with you on what real freedom is.

There's a distinct difference between protesting an arguably unjust law, and breaking the law. You can do one without doing the other.

Freedom = lack of government control (or any other type of control).

The original idea of American freedom was that, as long as you aren't hurting anyone else, you should be allowed to do what you wish REGARDLESS of what most people think about what you do.

Children in child porn aren't being hurt? There are two types of abuse, physical and mental. Do you think the children are given the option in regards to being in porn? Do you think if they are and they say "yes" they make that decision knowing what it entails? Do you think they should even be making that decision as a child?

Apparently Busta thinks it's okay to hurt children, so long as they're not American children.

So your saying people should be allowed to smoke crack because we all know they don't murder and steal for their money.

And that drug dealer on my doorstep if I ask him to leave hes not going to come back later tonight and torch my apartment building.

And that meth lab next door? no problem its not like meth lab explosions ever kill innocent people.

yeah drugs don't hurt anyone else

It's a good job he doesn't live here, he could probably be arrested for what he wrote.

well he would have to be stupid enough to download an attachment from someone he doesn't know 1st, or have an unsecured wireless network AND have no anti virus and/or firewall. god damn they are going to have a hell of a time gathering any evidence from people who know jack shit about computers. Your government is essentially aspiring to be a 2nd rate Chinese ID thief.

Nah they could get through his wireless or if he doesn't have wireless just walk into his house and take his HDD.

I guess that's true over there, at least here I can say fuck off and come back with a warrant.

I smoke pot occasionally, and if I could, and I plan to, I'd take shrooms again. You're right there is a difference between drug users and drug abusers, however the lines grow blurry at times (go pun!).

Freedoms for intelligent adults to enjoy the occasional line of cocaine, smoking a doob or a couple after a hard day of work or what ever your pleasure is one thing. When it's controlled, like you said, regulated. Sure makes sense to me, I don't really HATE on drugs at all. CERTAIN drugs really should remain illegal and idc nor will I ever care what kind of argument you may have on that subject. It's my opinion.

Freedom.. does NOT include the RIGHT for ANYONE regardless of their location to ABUSE CHILDREN for sexual relief/pleasure/satisfaction or what I like to think sexual bastardization. Anyone involved, that includes those who solicit, download, rent or buy that material should face serious punishment and possible imprisonment imo.

How is that even related to not standing up for myself?? OR did you mean that "sicko" fuck in Texas has every right to stand up for HIS rights to exploit Molly's tortured life as a child porn actor by bustin nutts to it.

I'm using pretty blunt language here because the reality is.. it's FUCKING SICK. You want to make light on pervs liking children being used as sex toys...I'm going to try to paint that picture for you, apparently you're a little desensitized.

Freedom = lack of government control (or any other type of control).

Unfortunately, and I said it this morning.. it's 2009 people, but the STUPID still out-number the smart.

So Governing, is required. It will ALWAYS be required. Because there are people out there that lack common sense. Not-to-mention the god knows how many people who can NOT function in society.

The reason Government is required is the same reason that Communism doesn't work.

People are stupid, selfish, hypocritical beings.

A government must allow people to function as well as regulate actions of citizens which affect other citizens in potentially negative fashions:
- Traffic Laws
- Industry Regulation (Mass Transit and Aviation)
- Criminal Activity
A. Murder
B. Rape
C. Child Pornography

There are 2 types of harm: Mental and Physical.

Physical harm is easy to detect. Mental harm is not easy to detect in many cases. However, the statistics of adult delinquents in part due to child molestation is very depressing.

I see what you're saying, if Jack likes to watch 12 year old Sally on a T.V. screen -- no harm is actively done at that moment.

However, at the time Sally got filmed, could possibly have ruined Sally's entire life. Maybe Sally was virtually created, so then when Jack can no longer resist his urges he goes out to find a real Sally? I find less and less reason for modern governments to handicap themselves in protecting it's citizens.

I think child pornography is despicable, and I think most people feel this way.

But where the line is quickly blurred is when there is truly victimless child pornography cases. For example, what if a 17 year old takes a nude or semi-nude picture of themselves and distributes it under their own will? Oh no, that's not child pronography, don't be fucking stupid!!! Or is it?
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/mostread/s_606854.html

What if it's animated? There's not necessarily a victim if there is a drawing of pornography, is there? Aren't drawing a form of free speech? US Supreme Court doesn't say so...

And on and on. . .

Child abuse is real, and it's a tragedy. But casting a wide legal net on the issue "for the sake of the children" is wrong. With the power to do so, government officials will misuse and abuse and trap some hapless teenagers who want to show off their bellybutton piercings (or more).
