Clarification On Board Rules

Inappropriate material: 9-point 30-day infraction issued. Any further infraction will bump them to read-only for a short period of time.

How can you punish someone for that when all the ads are about that.

I thought we covered the ad issue? Or is this part of the read only what you want to read junk?

We covered the ad issue. It is a little bit less under the moderator control.
Listen to CmdrFly's word. It is good.

Just because you two have someone you can legitimately pass the buck to doesn't make it less hypocritical. After all, one of the more popular sayings is "This is Reeve's site." Ultimately, both of these things fall onto him.

I don't see how it's really right to punish people for something that happens on the site with no real effort taken to remove it. It's one thing if he did a weekly (hell monthly) sweep of the ads to try to clean them up, but last we heard from Reeve was "Well, we're almost out of room so *shrugs* sorry" which doesn't cut the mustard for me.

I wasn't trying to pass the buck. I put an operative word into my reply, "moderator."
I mean, as far as Rappa's concerned, the mods here should sanction the selling of accounts just because moderators, emphasis on moderators, can't do anything about the ads. Rephrasing that, moderators should sanction the sale of accounts here because the owner of the site does not cycle the ad blocks.

Seems like one extreme jump in favor of another, no?

Not at all. When most topics come up, it's "Moderators do what Reeve wants." "Reeve wants it this way." or "I'll have to ask Reeve." Now it's "Oh, let's ignore what Reeve is doing, this is what we're doing." The result seems to be this strange dichotomy of someone whose words and actions are absolute, yet meaningless at the same time.

On that note, I'm becoming more and more interested in footing the costs myself to have someone who actually cares in a position of ownership of this site. Yeah, I'm looking at Rappa here to be perfectly honest.

Also, I'd like to clarify that I DON'T feel it should be allowed, I just think it's extremely hypocritical to have a website that hosts RMT advertisements with zero effort involved in their removal tell users "btw, no RMT, kk?" regardless of who is responsible in the end.

Most of the reasons that you hear "We'll ask Reeve about it" or "Reeve says no" usually means that we can't do the specific things that y'all want to happen. I cannot edit words out of here, I cannot deal with the ads, I cannot upload smileys onto this site. There are legitimately many things that we do need Reeve for since he's limited adminship and modship.

Here's an issue that I slightly see...we are all against RMT activity - or at least most of us are. But what about those on here who have actually sold their account? Not through here but have sold their account for one reason or another? On the black & white side we should ban them since they engaged in RMT activity.

However, that being said...I try to look at it through a different view. I attempt to give a person the benefit of the doubt for selling their account. Whether it be for money issues, or something else, I still look over that fact. What I'm trying to get at here is we don't want people their accounts, items, or gil here. (Minus the ads, please remember that is slightly out of our control) This is something that we as players can understand and appreciate. I for one will go completely against Reeve if he pops on here and says it's okay to post items like that.

May I also remind everyone to please report posts they find of people attempting to sell items through this site in that manner.

Meh, I'm going to do my part to keep the RMT sales off this website. That is an active level of RMT here at QCDN. It is definitely not the same as the passive placement of RMT advertisements. I agree, this can be debated, and I won't argue it. You may see it hypocritical, I see it as preventing the current problems from getting worse.

Reeve does not like the ads, but he sees the rotation as a futile effort. I do not like the ads, but at least I can do something about the placement of posts here.

This is kinda like when you walk into the library and there is loud music playing and if you try to talk you get sushed by the people working there. Kinda weird.

Lol... I'm working at a computer lab right now, and I don't let either... music or loud talking >.>.

Please don't mistake what I'm saying, this is definitely what needs to continue. The biggest issue in my opinion would be seeing this website in the hands of someone who doesn't think it's a waste of time to pay attention to and maintain it (without needing 50 people to bitch about it until it gets done) Yeah, he already appointed some admins (after said bitching) but I'm doubting that's really enough.

Having Buy FFXI Gil at the top of every single page, and Best FFXI cheats! at the bottom is definitely not what I'd call subtle in any way, and is definitely a worse problem than some shmuck trying to sell their account in plain view of everyone.

While I do think this is hypocritical, and that both things should be unacceptable, this actually isn't a criticism of the moderators. They're the ones doing their job perfectly this time around.

Outlawing RMT posts is a good thing, even if it could be construed as hypocritical. People will just have to keep in mind that moderators don't get that much power really. That said, I browsed the forum rules, and there are no rules at all about RMT of any sort. There probably should be. It's a good thing to give warnings for RMT posts. It's not good not to have any written rules prohibiting it, whilst simultaneously having "Buy FFXI Gil" plastered in bold blue on your header. I don't think this rule will come into practice very often, if at all, but at least in principle, if you can't get rid of the ads, you should put the rule in writing. It wouldn't take a huge leap of faith to come to the erroneous conclusion that QCDN supports RMT. Might as well avoid trouble before it starts.

RMT activities can really be covered by the copyright rules we have for the boards, since technically SE owns every piece of gil in the game, and for paying real money for it without their consent is copyright infringement. So yes, we do have rules to cover it. That and the fact that it breaks a contract you sign with SE at the beginning of the game should make it more than reason enough to not allow the posts.

I would hope on a gaming forum, a rule like that could be an understood no~no.
