I AM GOING TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR.

Status: Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Colorado at Boulder. You are being offered admission to the college and major listed above as of 01/12/2006. A letter with specifics is being mailed to you.

Waiting on three more, but it's nice to know that at least I'm going somewhere next year ^^.

Any other high school seniors out there?

Watch out for senioritis. I got a letter of early admintance from my college, and I just took the rest of the year off... Almost didn't graduate

You'll really like it here :) just watch out for the girls in Uggs and huge Chanel glasses that travel in packs, generally from Newport.

Congrats! I've been working on getting my Associates.....I've put off college for quite awhile, lol. But I'm finally gonna try to work toward my Associates then my Bacholers. If things get flowing pretty well, I may even go for my Masters in Meteorology.

Congratulations!
Boulder is an awesome place, been to the college and USGS many times. If I had a million fifillion bucks I'd buy a house on Pearl Street. Boulder is one of the places that would come to mind if you were to wake me up at 3am and ask me where I would want to live.

What's your major?

OMGorz!!11!!! U CAN CAST METEOR!!!

Personally, I miss my college days. Hopefully next year I'll get off my ass and finish my masters... but with all the excitement I had at the beginning of the semester this past year I kinda got behind on my work. Meh.

Congratulations on getting accepted to college man. These seriously are the best (and worst) years of your life. So make the best of them!

My major is linguistics.

I'm coming to visit next month, is there anything in particular that I should see? I talked to the department chair for linguistics and I'm going to drop in on a class or two but besides that, anything you'd reccomend?

This is funny, because that is precisely the type of people that I fear here, generally from Newport, Rhode Island.

Oh noes!
It's not too late to change your mind.

I really don't mean to be Debbie Downer, but linguistics is imho only a good choice if you want to become a teacher. For pretty much everything else you will be in line behind those people who have a degree that more closely relates to the actual work while having language skills on the side.

However, this is not a problem!

In the first year you will take core requirement classes only anyway, so don't worry about it. Get a feel for college, get to know the people, get a better understanding of what certain things are all about, and then you can always change your major later if you choose.

As far as things to see in Boulder goes, never really did tourist stuff myself, I got in the car and headed for the mountains. So much scenic hiking around there!

Hey hey, don't talk me out of it yet! There are options. Research, forensic linguistics, AI design, or what will probably happen is I will go to grad school for something else. It's one of the best degrees you can have to enter law school, I'm told, and pretty much a great foundational degree to have. If linguistics were that useless it really wouldn't exist. I've looked into it, believe me. Besides, I can always go for a Ph.D and be a professor.

Congrats Songi. ^^ I can't wait to get back out to college again next year.... I miss it >_<

Boulder is pretty much a college town, that happens to have mountains nearby haha. 5 minutes from hiking trails, reasonably close to most resorts and very close to a few. The town itself has a lot of good biking trails and public transportation. As far as where people tend to hang out off campus there is the Hill which is very close, the Campus itself is just nice, construction on a new law building...and some other building is going on, but other than that its a nice place.

Send me a PM and I'll hook you up with my number if you have any questions when you are here.

Boulder was my origonal choice for college, but their out of state tuition was way over priced. Very pretty area though.

I'm in state so its reasonable, CU is one of the best colleges no doubt in the west until you hit Cali, but yeah out of state is pretty expensive. Tuition has been going up in CO alot in all major schools....DU is getting crazy.

I didn't mean to imply that linguistics is useless. It's just that in a competitive commercial environment you are better off with a different degree that more closely relates to the work being done. If you want to stay in the ling field, then of course ling is the way to go.

In the end you can go from any undergrad to any grad program, the difference is only the amount of course work you have to put in to get your grad degree.

Come to Alaska! Our out-of-state is probably less than your in-state.

2005--2006 Tuition Resident Non-resident
100--200 level courses $109/credit $363/credit
300--400 level courses $123/credit $377/credit
500--level courses varies varies
600--level courses $244/credit $498/credit

UAF is an excellent school for physical science and engineering, don't apply if you want a social science or liberal arts degree though.

Yeah, it's pretty expensive. I'm going to need some money from them (or get rejected from all of the other schools I applied to) to go. Your in-state is MORE than reasonable, trust me, URI is 7100, UConn is 8800, UMass schools are 9300 all in-state (and CU is a much better school than all of the above). New England public schools suck lol. Oh well, I guess it's the price we pay for Brown, Harvard, MIT, all of the other schools I can't get into etc. etc.

Haha, well, I'm an International Affairs major so idk about that Sculli hehe.

Yah.....one of the good things about being in the Navy is that all my school is paid for minus the books. I only need 9 classes to get my Associates. I love weather and its actually my job in the Navy.

Soon i'm gonna be going to Thomas Edison State College...online, since they have online courses :P Plus, I dont live on the east coast.
