Coming Back: Need some advice

Hi Everyone

I played FFXI for 3-4 years but this was back starting in 2002/2003. I was playing on and off in up until 2005 or so.
The game has come a long way from there and a lot of things have definitely changed since then, ie. new jobs, quests, items, foods etc.

Just wanted to know though, are the game dynamics a lot more different from before? Ie. leveling up etc. I played Paladin up until my mid 50s but am thinking of taking out my mid 40s dragoon again. Is it still hard to get into parties as a dragoon?

I think my main concern before putting in the time commitment again is the following
1. I dont remember how much money I have so was wondering how hard it is to make money (I was in my early 60s for blacksmithing, and i think woodworking was up there as well).
2. im guessing the american player base is a lot more established now? (when i started JP parties were all the rave).
3. forgot the most important thing. How bad is the inflation right now? I had a measly 2mil before and i know for a while it was worth nothing. is it worth even less now?

You'd be surprised how far 2m will go now. :) And welcome back.
 
Yeah, 2 million could fund quite a few jobs to 60+ easily these days. Check ffxiah.com for that, but as far as party dynamics go I'd say its more or less the same. Alot of the player base is more focused towards endgame and endgame-like things (Assault, missions, salvage, sky, einherjar, etc.) The addition of Besieged and Campaign, along with the new job Dancer, make getting your EXP solo or on your own time manageable. Parties are a little harder to come by because a lot of people have multiple 75's at this point, but I still rarely seek on most jobs for more than an hour or so.

lolDRG got some help with the addition of a 2H weapons update, and new "straps" that came out, which can give you a little added bonus. They're still not peoples first choice for DD, but are fairly respectable.

if you have 2 mil dude you're pretty much set money wise.
 
lol anyone else remember back when a Scorpion Harness was like 10 mil+ ?

I bought Igqira Weskit for 9 mil ~.~ its, what, 5k now? 7k maybe?
 
Me and Tongan pooled our gil together and spent around 9mil for a Dragon Harness. :-\

I've been sitting on 1mil for about six months, even while leveling RNG and NIN, so two million can take you a long way through a job.
