since friday, my computer has been crashing on me everytime i load onto FF. Usually about 10 min into FF my screen freezes and my display goes low res, low color, saying,
Code:
The ialmrnt5 display driver stopped working normally.
Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality.
The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft.
I tried updating the driver, and doing a system restore, but neither worked. I also tried reinserting my RAM(yahoo answers gave me this).

BUT NOW(2 days later), everytime i turn on my comp, it BSOD's at the welcome screen(safe mode seems fime)

Code:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ialmrnt5

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

The device driver got stuck in an infitie loop. This usually indicates problem with the device driver itself or with the device driver programing the hardware incorrectly.

Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

Technical information:

Description:
$um$id has discovered a vulnerability in Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

The vulnerability is cause due to an error in the "ialmrnt5" display driver when handing overly long text in a textfield. This can potentially be exploited to cause a DoS e.g. by tricking a user to open a window to an overly long URL with the browser.

Successful exploitation may cause the system to restart or cause the system to revert to a low resolution display mode.

The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 6.14.10.4308. Other versions may also be affected.

Are you running any Norton software?

edit: is this the driver you downloaded? Other people report it fixed the prob for them. Note this is not for Vista, 2k/XP only.

Can you disable it from Safe Mode, or just completely uninstall it? From what I've read so far it's a service conflict.

i havent tried disabling it or uninstalling it, i tried to roll back the driver, but i had no backup files on the comp, so i couldnt

i restarted the comp from safe mode to regular. and it gave me a BSOD, but it had a different message

.......ntsf.sys - address F83FD804 base at F83D2000, Datestamp 41107eea.....

This is after removing McAffee from the picture?

McAffee. Isolate the driver/driver software to be the only thing running at startup.

Honestly I don't know, never used McAffee. Should be able to run the McAffee Control Centre or whatever they call it and disable the "auto-start with Windows" option (may be called something else).

Alternatively, if you have the CD still, just uninstall it.

ok i was able to disable the startup of mcaffe through spybot, but after i restarted i still got the same BSOD message. Also, when i was in safe mode, the screen would only show like every other line and when i open/close progs in it, part of the prog would still be on the screen. i tried changing to the lowest setting in safe mode, nothing happened.

i hope i dont have to get a new vid card cuz that would suck

You got the latest drivers from Dell's site or from Intel's site?

when i updated the driver, it was through display properties> setting>advanced> adapter>properties> driver>update

also, the comp loads up fine in VGA mode, but like the safe mode, it does the same thing* on the screen

The vulnerability is cause due to an error in the "ialmrnt5" display driver when handing overly long text in a textfield.

when i restarted it in VGA mode, i saw this through Privacy Mantra after the welcom screen(but it didnt crash in VGA)

Privacy Mantra? What is that?

when i updated the driver, it was through display properties> setting>advanced> adapter>properties> driver>update
Then it probably didn't update anything. Windows is not the best self-helper when it comes to updating drivers, you need to download the newest ones direct from the manufacturer.

Go here:

the 1st thing i did was update on intel
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go! <-- this was the 1 they wanted me to update

after i did that(on friday) i got a different BSOD message, it wasnt ialmrnt5, but was igxpdx32.dll, so after i got that a few time, i did a sys restore, the igxpdx32.dll BSOD stopped showing up, but the ialmrnt5 BSOD was still there, then i re-updated it through windows

I was just checking to see if Dell had updated drivers for that system but the site's being bunk for me. Looks like you found the right ones though.

That app looks pretty sweet, will have to check it out.

Seeing as how many other people are reporting almost the exact same problem, I don't think it's a loose card issue. You can try removing it and reseating it but I wouldn't be prepared for any success.

I'm running out of ideas on this one, if it popped up 4 days ago and a System Restore didn't fix it you may need to start collecting cd's. When was your last reformat?
