My baby is broken and needs some nerdy lovin'.

Sooo it started last Sunday, Easter, I left IE open (my first mistake) on myspace (my second mistake) and go eat breakfast. I come back maybe 30 minutes later and I have about 30 pops ups and Lord only knows how many virus's and spyware made it in.

After a few days the pop ups wouldn't stop, and then eventually (Tuesday I think) my computer starts restarting on me. I get it in safe mode and follow the advise of my brother (who went to school for computers) and downloaded Avast! Anti-virus and Ad-Aware. I run them through a few times and the restarting stops, but the virus's are still there. So I run Avast! and everything else I have in safe mode trying to get rid of this shit. (I think I ran these programs maybe three times everyday and there was shit on it every time.)

For the most part it seemed like I won. Then, Registry Cleaner and Brave Sentry start running on my computer for no reason. I try to manually uninstall them, delete their system files, everything I can think of and it does nothing.

Then my university cuts off my desktop to the internet because the virus's are trying to get on their network. I have them come and the guys does his shit, fixes it. Right?

Wrong. My computer runs slow as shit as compared to before and can't handle vent and FFXI running at the same time (well, without the ping getting somewhere up to 20k o.o). And last night when I turned it on after work it restarted on me, again. So I know something is still wrong, but I don't know what.

Anyone that just read all that and understood my nonsense and then some please help me out. I just want my baby back to running as smoothly as it was after my brother finished building it. ;_;

Format = Solves 90% of problems. Well, Maybe its only porn problems, since i look at porn, oh so much.

do a system restore to a couple days before all this started happening

if need be, restore to a couple weeks ago to be safe, run a virus scan right afterward

run avg anti-virus, i dk about avast! but avg allows you to quarentine (sp?) virus's if they cant get rid of em...

looks like you have a nasty one

Unfortunetly, reformatting is not really an option for another month now. I'm still at school in Hawaii and all my OS disks, FFXI, and any other program I have on my computer are all at home in Michigan.

You've probably still got tons of spyware on the system. Ad-Aware should have got most of it, but you should also use Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster for extra levels of protection. Spybot's got a "immunization" feature that blocks all sorts of crap in IE. Spyware Blaster's similar but it runs in the background and also helps block crap if you're using Firefox. Also, I'm not sure if you use a firewall. I'm guessing you don't if all those viruses got on there just from having IE open. I use Zone Alarm myself, haven't had any problems with it.

Spybot S&D works good. Also switch to Firefox. While its not immune by any means, IE seems more vulnerable to shit like that.

Also try C-Cleaner. Gets rid of old junkt files like temp files. Also clears your cookies tho, which gets annoying if you use the "save password" thing on websites.

The problem is that these things dig themselves pretty deep into your system, and when you run a program that tries to clean it out, they can move around and hide themselves. Nasty little bitches.

The best way to fix your problem, since reformatting is not an option, is to tackle the issues one by one. A quick Google search for remove "registry cleaner" brings up:

http://www.spywaredb.com/remove-registry-cleaner/

As for brave sentry:

If you have more spyware apps that pop saying "u NEED 2 run dis 2 insure ur compter duznt explodz!!!11!" just google remove "appname". There are a lot of nerds out there that have step-by-step guides on how to fix this up.

However your system will not be the same. Reformat it as soon as possible. Additional dll files get loaded in all sorts of places that will slow down Windows overall, and picking them out is a pain in the ass.

You can give a shot to things like Hijack this and all those other Anti-Virus software packages. But... it's probably just easier to system restore (if you have a restore point available).

You can end up getting to a point with all these fixes, inevitably your master boot sector's gonna get corrupted. NEVER fails. Damn malware/virus/spyware shit.

No word of a lie. Browse enough pr0n and you'll suffer as we did.

If you have XP, definitely do this.

Well, since you installed all your Ad-Ware and Anti-virus apps the next step is to get your computer updated from the OS Provider. Assuming you run some flavor of Windows, I'd recommend that you head to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and patch your system. If there is still a reliable attack vector to your machine, leaving it unpatched will only cause it to be compromised over and over. Scan, patch, scan. Repeat as necessary. Also, get a host based firewall if you feel like going te extra mile. Zone Alarm is as good as any of them. www.zonelabs.com

Best of luck.

Until it comes time to install games.
