Computer Problem / Crashing

And you're sure if you check the start up section, everything all check marks is off ?

Positive.

-Use the Windows CD while windows is open and, when you see the automatic start up window appear search for missing components, it will run an automatic diagnostic and if there are missing components it will install them.

But i think you may have to do this 1st cause of the situation

Start the PC in Safe mode and Run the virus scan. In some cases Norton Antivirus does nto work in safe mode, (never knew why) if that is the case with you follow these direction on this page.

If you're PC can crash in Safe mode, then most likely you just identified a hardware issue.

My soul has died, it crashed in safe mode (was actually trying that out while waiting for a response).

Ugh, now the hunt for the defunct hardware.

Should I try this too anyway, or is it safe to assume from above that it's a hardware issue and unnecessary?

Anyways, I'm going to get some sleep, it's getting late here, I'll try switching out some hardware and see if anything works in the morning.

Thanks Anttaru and everyone for the ideas/thoughts/suggestions. I really appreciate it. I'll give the suggestions made here a whirl.

If anyone has any further thoughts/ideas, feel free to post them in the meantime. I'll be sure to post again tomorrow sometime when I wake up and try swapping some hardware out and such, and let everyone know what does/doesn't work.

Well if you get a pack of matches some gasoline and an axe, you should be able to fix it no problem.

Yeah in all honesty it could be the RAM or the motherboard or the powersource like those other nerds suggested.

One time my brother was having serious issues with his power source. He was replacing it over and over again. He actually has a pile of dead Powersources. I don't know how he stoped it from re-occuring. It could end up being a faulty power source on you're PC too. Those are cheap to replace and easy to install. But i cannot say what is wrong with you're PC.

As a follow up...

...it ended up being confirmed to be the motherboard causing the issues. Tested every piece of hardware and isolated it to that.

Ended up having to get a new one. Everything works fine now.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and help, and thanks again Anttaru for assisting me to help verify it wasn't a software issue.
