Just bought a brand new PC and everytime I load up a game the mofo reboots. These are the specs:

Case: Coolmaster HAF-X
CPU: i7-950 3.06GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX470
RAM: A-DATA PC2-1600 DDR3
PSU: 1000W Thermaltake TR2
Mobo: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R

So whenever I load up say MW2, FFXIV or BFBC2 the thing just straight up reboots. Even if I try and run Windows Experience Index Test or GPU Stress tests. I dont think its an overheating issue because the card never even comes close to 70 degrees, my CPU is rolling about 35-40 and it reboots clean. When my old PC would overheat it would like shutoff, but not cleanly reboot.

Nothing shows up in event viewer and it doesnt BSOD, just turns off and turns back on. So what I'm not sure though is if its just a shitty card, or a problem with the PSU, either not getting it enough power or a faulty line or something like that.

I've used the newest Nvidia drivers (Both the 197.w/e and the 259.w/e) as well as the drivers that came with the card on CD and the ones installed by windows updates. They all fail. I've tried a clean Win7 with just the graphics drivers, and it failed, as well as having all the latest drivers for everything.

I mean as far as i can tell its just a bad card. I'm gonna run to Best Buy tomorrow and probably pick up an 5850 just to test it against it and see how that runs. Just curious if anyone else might have some ideas as to why this problem might be popping up.

you know, ive actually run into this also just recently. to find out what program/driver might be causing the restart, you could download a program called "whocrashed". that will tell you which software is the cause of the restart, if it is software related.

my problem is windows software based. the last time i ran into a game restarting when i tried to run it, it was an issue with ram not being compatible. pretty much did the same thing, i could load the game, but within seconds of being in the game, would restart

Yeah, not really sure what the deal is. But I popped the 470 in my old PC and it worked just fine so I'm gonna send the PC back, get my money back, and just upgrade my graphics card and maybe my ram in my current PC. I guess theres really no need to spend the 1800 bucks to get a brand new one when I can just spend 300-400 and fix up my old one, which runs FFXIV just fine now.

I think I know your problem. I had a buddy that put 1600 DDR3 ram in a gigabyte board that only used 1333 as its highest ram compatibility. It acted erratically once trying to run anything. So we switched the ram and it ran correctly, turned out he bought the right ram box, but the packaged ram inside was wrong so we went back and exchanged it.

Also, I run an i5 2.7 ghz quadcore, 4 gigs of DDR3, 700 PSU, and a Nvidia 465. I run on max settings (Except Ambient Occlusion because its SE lolfail on all cards). You dont need any i7 to run this game because I run it perfect. Too many damn people running their mouths in the beta forums on Squeenix's site saying you need this and that. My system I built last week and I spent no more than $850 bucks and that was with a copy of Windows 7. Everything is name brand and higher end, nothing off the net. I ran into an amazing sale at Microcenter by my house where they gave i5 chips free if you got the combo mother board + chip.

Im glad your system is running good. The game will only run better with time after updates.
