Alright, I have a 5 month old HP with an AMD64 running Windows XP. I turn it on today and for some reason it was in 600x800 resolution, so I switched it back to 1280x1024. Now I've noticed that things are moving slow. When I scroll through a page it skips, when I move window across the screen it drags and leaves after images. Also when I go to Shut Down the Stand By option is not available. I don't really know whats caused this. The most recent things I've done is connect an iPod and download iTunes, but worked just fine for two days with these. I've also done a defrag but it still acts the same. I really dont understand this =/

Norton says theres no viruses

Norton sucks.

get NOD32/Kaspersky

sounds to me like the choppyness of your browsing and windows is a problem with your video card drivers, check them, update them, reinstall them or whatever to see if that solves that issue.

While we're on the subject, can anyone post a link to a really good (free) anti-virus/spyware site?

AVG is pretty good, I used that before I got NOD32.

It's not a virus. Chasym's right ... this is obviously your video card. I've seen this a hundred times over, and it's always the same. Uninstall and re-install the drivers.

What render-heavy games/applications have you installed recently? There's a good chance that one of them is the culprit.

Yea, its your video drivers, just reinstall them and restart computer and it will be perfectly fine.

Question, is it XP Media Center edition?

If so Microsoft released a buggy update file a coupla days ago..

Course it was causing an error message about "Illegal Relocation" of "filename here" into Windows protected/private RAM

My mother's computer had a problem like this and it was corrected with a new download they put out that Windows update doesn't fetch for you, you've got to manually go search it up.

Don't have the exact error message. But with that said, if you're not in this boat update your Video drivers, make sure to do a disk cleanup with the defragment to free up any unnecessary space.

I'm not a big user of ipod or anything apple, but does it run on Java? If so I had a nasty problem like this where I managed to get the Java Runtime Environment running twice.. it was bogging me to almost a standstill.

And yes, certainly scan for any viruses..

I was having that error and downloaded the patch, put it didnt fix the display problem.

However, I reinstalled the video driver and now it works fine.
