mostly wanting to look for a hp- set to proc my conjurer's ring and also discuss some of the gear available to smn in general, once I re-update my parser i plan to test the effects of sacrifice torque and summoner spats and see exactly how much damage they add.

but with the above mentioned what gear do you guys use for your smn and what avatars do you use(feel free to give case by case scenarios)?

I don't really use Hp gear to get the latent on Conjurer's Ring. I usually get let a mob hit me a few times.

As for Smn gear...

My full time gear is
FFSMNSET.png

For those that don't know the gear that's
Weapon: Apollo's Staff/Pluto's Staff
Sub: Staff Strap
Ranged: Hedgehog Bomb
Head: Zenith Crown(Till I get my Evoker's Horn +1)
Neck: Fenrir's Torque/Summoning Torque
Earring 1: Magnetic Earring
Earring 2: Loquacious Earring
Body: Yinyang Robe
Hands: Carbuncle Mitts
Ring 1: Evoker's Ring
Ring 2: Serket Ring
Back: Storm Cape(I have a Blue Cape +1 but I like this one more. It always reminds me of the fun I have in my Assault static)
Waist: Hierarch Belt(lolduh, don't think there is anything better)
Legs: Evoker's Spats(Trying to +1 em)
Feet: Evoker's Pigaches +1(Best piece all round, hurts me when I see a Smn in Rostrum pumps)

And for my macros I have gear changes(duh lol). Here's an example
SMNCARBYMACRO.png

And of course with other avatars I macro in Nash Gages, Summoning Torque, and their respective staves. I also have a macro for Relic body for when I use the lvl 70 Bps. I'd full time it but I like my green YYR. YYR is just much cooler anyways.

I usually manually switch in Conjurer's Ring though. I have a bad habit of curing myself when I see yellow so I never really get it's effect.

yeah it'd be nice to have a hidden effect of not being able to be cured past your latent activation rate...too many people heal me when i do activate it in campaign or w/e

My issue is that I lvled Whm first. Yellow Hp to me means I'm not doing my job. After a while I hated seeing Yellow Hp. Necrosis would usually give me shit for curing him when he was on Brd.

After playing Whm for like 2-3 years that becomes a hard habit to break lol.

I'm not a big fan of having HP anything not capped on my summoner.

Having perpetuation reduction is nice, but only really useful in situations where you keep out your avatars.
Which usually would be when you solo and that is when you really don't want your HP in yellow.
Aside from that -1 perpetuation only really becomes noticable when you have other gear to stack it with like the AF+1 feet and Nashira Gages.

But if you want the latent to go in effect, pick up a couple of Zenith pieces from sky and some +HP gear to force yourself in yellow HP.

But still, in my personal opinion, it's not worth the effort.

As for Parsing avatars, hard because melee damage from our avatars is not something to write home about and our Blood pacts as random as Blade: Jin.
Yes I've had unmerited summoners outdamage me and I have my summoner fully merited in avatar physical accuracy and attack.
The reason I still say it is advisable to merit accuracy and especially stack up the summoning magic skill is a notice in consistancy of landing Blood Pacts.
And not just the Physical:

My full time gear is basicly my perpetuation gear and I use a lot of gearswaps in my Blood pact Macros.
So much I actually have to use scripted macros these days.

My Predator Claws Macro:
Code:
input /equip Neck "Smn. Torque"
input /equip Hands "Smn. Bracers +1"
input /equip Feet "Summoner's Pgch."
input /equip Body "Yinyang Robe"
input /pet "Predator Claws" <t>
wait 1
input /equip Body "Summoner's Dblt."
input /equip Neck "Sacrifice Torque"
input /equip Legs "Oracle's Braconi"
wait 5
input /equip Legs "Summoner's Spats"
input /equip Feet "Evk. Pigaches +1"
input /equip Hands "Nashira gages"
input /equip Neck "Grandiose chain"

I poached my gear from BLM (Sorcerer's).

Head: Zenith Crown
Hands: Zenith Mitts
Body: Black Cotehardie
Ring: Serket Ring

Rostrums, Penitent's, Zenith Legs, or any other piece you don't full time will work.

may work on getting windhurstan AN gear and make up a little skit based of that...loads of hp stuff there and mp.

the only place i wouldn't use it in is areas with undead but otherwise i can work with it.

you deserve a medal for landing slowga on cerberus...that stuff never wants to land...like sleepga

Blue Cape [+1] is also good for lowering your max HP in hopes to activate the effect fulltime, rather than having mobs hit you or such. Otherwise I'd say Hmk hit the nail on the head.

Personally, I didn't ever bother with Conjurer's Ring. Anything you'd typically solo is either easy enough to not need the slight perpetuation reduction, or too risky to bother with trying to solo anyhow, you know? The exception being some monsters you may fight and need every bit of MP you can muster (i.e. some NMs) but then you'd likely use Astral Flow for free perpetuation, which renders the ring entirely pointless anyhow.

In the majority of other situations, you only have avatars out for their blood pacts, in which case you need to ask yourself if dumping on so much -hp is worth the mp you'd save while having an avatar out (10 or so total)

Only real use I can see for the ring is if you're farming using Fenrir + Pluto Staff (SA Spirit Taker allows you to keep MP up effectively) or if you're SMN Burning something. Even the latter I'm unsure of, however, since purposely having piddly HP vs anything you'd SMN burn is also a borderline suicidal concept.

Not saying -perpetuation cost isn't amazingly good, it's just that the cost to get this additional -1 cost is a steep one - SMNs are soft targets to begin with and lowering their HP even moreso makes them that much more of a burden in many situations.

Personally a fan of:
Summoner's Cape RareEx
[Back] All Races
DEF:6 HP+30 MP+30 Enmity-1
LV 70 SMN

Got lucky one Dynamis Qufim and a bat dropped it and we had no summoners in the LS at the time. Yoink!

My priorities as a SMN are still lacking.. level 68, and I've never summoner burned in my life. ; ; closest thing I ever did was team up with a BST to duo bombs. ; ;

yeah good point mish, I'd use it as long as I'm confident I won't take damage or i'm in a pt. but i'll try to do some math and see if i can get something down for a set pre-aquarian gear.

and how does smn burning work?

Throw 2-18 Garuda or Fenrir at something till it dies.

and how does smn burning work?

FUN TIMES!!

Before ToAU and the TP Burn parties level 70+ summoners used to find refuge in King Ranpere's Tomb's secret room to escape the horror of main healing.
There a set up of 5 summoners and a red mage or bard used to one shot bones with Titan and mountain buster for up to chain 5/6 exp since our blood pact cool down timers did not permit killing any faster.
4 to 5 Mountain busters well timed usually resulted in the skeletons going from 100 to 0% in less then 3 seconds.

Fun times!

Other possible spots that SMNs would burn is in Ulg range (hard name to spell) and Ifrit's Cauldron, can get like chain 5s with each 400-600xp. Fighting bombs of course.

Never seen many use Conjurer's or myself either, I'm sure Zenith would be best bet for getting the proper HP though, or even blue cape, astral, serket ect.
