Anyone else having connection problems tonight? Myself and Dejavu are unable to stay connected to POL. We both are in AZ with cox internet.

Here's an article to what we think may be the problem:

seriously pissed off now. Our regular internet works fine. I can log on to eve-online just fine, but ffxi keep getting POL-0011 and other errors.

called cox they said if i can browse the internet the rest is not their problem and to call SE... So gonna call SE even tho i know it is a problem with cox.

how is FFXI supposed to be linked to p2p? i really dont get the connection

Just got off the phone with POL the rep said that over the last 4 hrs they have had non stop calls from cox and cox only customers complaining about not being able to connect. It is obviously something they are doing but atm they are not fessing up to it... If you have cox and are somehow online i suggest that you dont disconnect.

anyone know any WoW players? any of them having connection problems?

omg so i'm not alone in this. I get that error every time I zone. Hope this clears up soon.
Well come to think of it, I dont have that isp... hmmm.

There's a thread on Allakhazam as well. It's not all just cox customers but everyone having the same exact problem, everything working fine but the connection to POL.

People at allah think it's a POL issue

Comcast users suffered a similar situation a couple of years ago. They were found to be in violation of some FCC code, as the article you submitted hints to. That people using cox cable may be able to play wow, or eq, or any other game than ffxi is completely dependent upon which ports the games use for access.

How this relates to p2p, you wonder?

Not going into details, cause, well, you're obviously not a pirate. ARRRRGH MATEY!

What it boils down to is that POL happens to use the same port range that many p2p clients use. So, if your ISP blocks those port ranges, you're pretty much s. o. l. Unless, you can get enough ppl bitching at the fcc about it.

Or, in some weird wet dream, POL could actually have grounds to file a complaint against the cable companies for loss of income.

It's not POL's fault cable companies suffer from headupasitis.

I think it may have been fixed.. not sure tho.. but i got online and so far havent been booted.

At what time? From what I gathered from the article, they weren't blocking those ports at all times, just during peak hours.
