For this mission, I think 6-3, can paladin tank the mammets, omega and ultima? Or is ninja the best way?

I don't know about best, but paladin can definately tank it, we won this fight 2nd try with a pld tank when I went through as stouter. (first try didn't count, we saved 2 hours and gave up at the 5 minute mark after 3 dc's)

I did it on ninja, omega or ultima (I forget which, might be both) has a really high damage TP Move, and they're long fights where whm might not have much time to recover MP.

PLd can tank it, but it becomes a lot easier with a ninja tank ;x

Every melee who can should have /nin sub to help with healing from their AoEs.

I know 2 war/nin has been done as well.

A bard is pretty sweet for support to the tank with defense/evasion/march buffs in this fight depending on the tank(s).

[sarcasm]

Dude, just go PLD/NIN so you can Blink and Meat tank! GOSH!!

[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, either way works, but im more partial to PLD.

Funny enough, I've heard it's a good idea for PLD to use an evasion setup because Ultima/Omega are highly inaccurate.

That is how my setup did it sort of, partly.

brd/whm(me)
pld/war
rng/
blm
whm
smn

Pld was equipping as much evasion gear as possible, I believe using bat earring and blind potions as well. I was singing dragonfoe mambo and ballad II for the pld most of the omega fight. Uncapped staff + blind equals pretty damn shitty hate holding, so the ballad was really needed without a rdm. But it was definitely worth sacrificing instead for minne at the hard part. He also wanted to use wind staff, and wanted dragon and sheep mambo, but I convinced him sheepfoe mambo and its 10 evasion and 10 evasion from wind staff won't stop as much damage overall as earth staff. Pld claims he was evading about 50%, not bad for a fat galka.

When omega started getting meaner and faster I switch to my best mambo(dragonfoe) and minne(minne III) to stop as much overall damage as possible which worked well.

Ultima's normal attacks were damn weak, so he switched to sword and shield and I used double minne for ultima getting his per hit damage very low. And he switched to earth staff when ultima was starting to get quite fast and dangerous.

When I did this fight we won our second time at it. Our first wipe was because we died on the wrong side of the airship T_T and had to wait to get booted out to RR and try again. We had both a NIN and PLD tanking. Our set up ended up being

WHM
BRD
NIN
MNK
SAM subbing rng I might add
PLD

we knocked out the mammets very quickly when our sam changed over to sam/rng one sidewider would cause about 1000 dmg. This helped a lot with time since we knew at one point we would have to fully wipe and recover, especially with our support limitations. Also, having our samurai subbing rng helped in the battle against the weapons themselves. He was able to stand far back to avoid the aoe dmg, do nice DoT with ranged attacks and run up to WS with his katana. This really helped with MP conserve.

My biggest problem was MP. With me being the only mage made it slightly stressful, but in the end we all pulled through. We wiped once at the end of Ultima, but got back up and finished him and the other off quite quickly. I might be getting the weapons confused but, Omega (the second one), seemed easier for us than Ultima.

It's a tough fight, but a lot of fun. Just keep a cool head, stick to a plan and do your best.

PLD with shitload of Eva equipment + barthundra from WHM because omega/ultima have en-stun on all attacks.

Other than that, fight Omega in the near right corner with mages behind the near left cannon. Omega's aoe is short range.
All melee /nin if they can, and have always all shadows up, curing DD after AoE is a pain in the ass (plus hatemonger).

Bring CCB, a lot of MP pots and you'll be "fine".

I was in Jag's Static. We tried both a Nin and a Pld. The EVA Pld worked best for our particular setup. Held hate better and could take hits when he was actually hit.

That being said, a CoP static in my LS just went through here and did it as dual War/Nin and they said that ultima/omega were so easy that the mammets actually gave them more trouble.
