Could you be fired for having bad credit?

It strikes me as odd, from the perspective of the federal employees, that you would put someone in a position where you wouldn't want them to encounter financial difficulties and then become potentially amenable to espionage, but not provide them with sufficient health coverage, thus leading them to a situation where health bills might create that very vulnerability.

For the most part, I think it's a bit ridiculous to impose credit checks for almost all jobs, but I do make allowances where security clearances are involved.

Especially considering your credit score doesn't really discern whether you went broke spending all your money on blow, or just had to deal with our grand ol' healthcare $y$tem.

Nor does it effectively measure you actual debt. You can be in debt up to your eyeballs, but still make your minimum monthly payments and have a pretty good credit score.
