I was randomly checking out the in-game clock and realized how close we are to the "year 1000." Do you think it's possible that SquareEnix is releasing TAU as a sort of celebration of the new Vana'diel millenium?

It could be related to that.
However, I always thought something else was going to happen to Vana'diel when the year 1000 hits.

Maybe technological advances? (new weapons, gear, methods of transportation, etc.)

War? (finally this is being answered with ToAU) :-D

And other things but currently don't come to mind.
As for it being tied into ToAU, maybe it is.
Guess we'll have to find out.

Anyway, someone on Alla worked out when the new Vana-Millenium would hit, and it worked out as June 3-5, so I think we'll be having fun over in Aht Urghan when the celebrations begin ^^

I thought was pretty funny too. I wonder just how old our characters are that we made back at PC release. What years was it when we started? Wasn't it 800 something?

Well it's 27/06/993 at time-of-writing. Excluding leap-years, that's 2344 days until the new millenium. If you take a Vana-day as one Earth hour, that means Y1K will hit roughly 97 days from now, around the 2nd of July 2006. That's assuming the Vanadiel Calender has 365 days a year, of course ^^

I started playing since the release in North America so I been around for quite a while. In turn, that makes my character an old fart sonny.
 
I know Mai Ikari knows. Its either June or July. I'm sure the release of this expansion will have nothing at all to do with the new millenium. I do think that SE might do something special though....but who knows. They've gotten so lazy on events lately.

I actually made a joke about this in the "MithraPride Reopening" thread, saying it should be called GoldenGirls since how much game time passed.
No one seemed to get it... ><
